^^ Not sure about current water temp, but this race is usually not wetsuit legal.

I've never been to the race site, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to ride on the course the day before. Not sure how traffic is, but I don't think anything would prohibit bikes from riding. Not sure about access to the lake.

I'll be going up on Sat and will probably drive the bike course. Good luck. See you there.

Bike course is in the park and on public roads so you can certainly ride it. Lake is NOT open to the public for swim and I can pretty much guarantee that they won't allow anyone it, not only are they pretty stict about it but there is the Uberman on Saturday so "racing" will be going on.

It's a calm lake and a good spot for a first OWS.

Just emailed the RD about a BT tent at the expo/packet PU. It would have to be set up by Sat. noon and be "staffed" a majority of the time. Although I originally volunteered to do it, I can't spend all day down there since we live 1.5 hrs. away and I've got 2 little kiddos. I thought it would be a good idea to have just so we'd have someplace to congregate and meet one another. Does someone else wanna get and man a BT tent or maybe we could designate another area to meet... Any suggestions?

Most of the public roads are in good condition as just biked it 2 weeks ago. Minor hills but mostly flat.

Really?  I don't think I've ever been to a race that didn't allow access to the water the day before.  Bummer.  I wanted to see how hot it was.

I can almost guarantee that they will NOT allow a pre-race swim on Saturday. West Windsor township is very strict about use of Mercer Lake and its never been allowed in the past. The problem is that the lake is not generally open for public swimming like most venues. Its not a safety issue, its just that the lake is essentially used for regattas, crew practice, etc. (the US Olympic Team and other crew teams practice there...you can see the US Olympic Team Boat House across from the swim start) combined with the fact that there is no large beach area for life guarding, etc.

They will open the lake for swim practice on Sunday morning about an hour or so before the race start, so you can definitely warm up then. Water temps have always been too high for wetsuits, and I am sure it will be the same this year given the lake of rain and pretty constant sunny days over the past weeks. That lake heats up quickly. If anything, you will hear people complain its too warm.

The bike course is fast and flat. The only road in somewhat rough condition is Hughes road, which is the first right turn off the park road. OUtside of that, everything else is in great condition and should provide for some fast bike times.

To echo other answers they don't allow OWS at the park lake. Friday nights at 6:30 there is now OWS about 15 minutes or so from there at Peddie Lake in Hightstown for anyone who'll be in the area on Friday. I posted some more details on another thread in the NJ forum and I think you should also find some details out on the Jersey Area Multisports website.

The roads for the bike portion are mostly outside of the park but not bad to ride. Just a few tight spots with traffic but otherwise pretty nice. The course is very flat and I did hit the turns in the CC last weekend and shouldn't be a big deal to maneuver on race day.

I will let Michele or Larry chime in, but the race is sold out and I believe there were about 2200 entrants (plus/minus) last year, and roughly split evenly between the sprint and the oly.

There are 2400 combined and the split is about 1400 sprint and 1000 Oly. Since the Oly has a part of the bike course that repeats we want to keep it from getting too congested. The sprint doesn't have that problem so once you're in front of someone, you never have to deal with them again and it spreads out (unless they pass you back!!).

The Olympic will most likely wind up with around 900 because we allow anyone who wants to switch from the Olympic to the sprint to do so (don't want to force anyone to take on more than they feel comfortable with). So the sprint could wind up with more than 1400 if a lot more people ask to switch.

Hope this helps!

i'm in for the race as well.  The olympic distance was my first triathlon last year and aside from the cramping on the running I loved every second of it.  Did the run course change this year?  It looks like after you exit transition you take a left to run a short loop sort of and then head out and back, skipping the loop on the return.  I thought I remember doing the opposite last year (the loop was toward the end of the first 5k, not the beginning).

Course looks the same to me. Left out of transition, out and back, then complete the sprint course.

yeah i guess it is...for some reason i thought last year we ran out and back first and then take a little detour through a parking lot and loop back towards the bike path.  regardless, looking forward to the race.

Ugh. That really sucks. I really hope I am not in a later wave...it's really going to mess up my nutrition. FWIW, we have been having a very mild summer...it's yet to get hot and humid, which is totally bizarre. (I hope I didn't just jinx it.) Also, it rained all day when I did IMLP...and has rained for me for every single race I've done since. So, I am expecting rain. And not just a little drizzle, but RAIN!

i think the swim waves go in every couple of minutes or so.  Last year was hot and humid but overcast which helped a bit.

CGI has been doing waves every 4 minutes, and usually a good break in between sprint and oly (15-20mins?) and I would expect the same here. I would think wave assignments should be up by next Monday or so.

Per the packet that was emailed around it says 3:30 which makes sense if the uberman is 2:45-3:15.

FYI: I was at the park today. The water is relatively warm...I would guess 79-80, maybe more? I tested it at the swim exit (i.e., the boat ramp) which might be a little warmer than mid-lake or the start, but very very doubtful that its going to be wetsuit legal.
