Subject: Lesson: It's OK to Beat Up People if You're A Chicago Cop
So in the past couple of months Chicago cops have been exonerated in one bar beating that was caught on tape ( http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2009/apr/29/local/chi-jefferson-... ) and today this was announced:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1635147,abbate-sentence-video-ba...

Here's me feigning surprise: `Wow! A cop beats up a tiny woman and gets probation? I'm SHOCKED!'

"If I believed sentencing Anthony Abbate to prison would stop people from getting drunk and hitting people, I'd give him the maximum sentence," (Judge) Fleming said. "But I don't believe that is the case."

See...I had completely forgotten that the criminal justice system was only about deterring future crime.

the real backstory is that the woman worked at Chipolte and earlier in the day put too much sour cream on the cop's burrito...

Lucky for 2Goggs that he was next in line, otherwise, this would have turned out SOOOOO different.

Should we then give people a sentence based on what they did so that they don't do that again?  Versus worrying about whether or not it will stop others?  Prisons, like the death sentence have proven to not be a very effective tool for stopping other's crimes.  Although, I will have to admit, execution certainly stops potential future crimes of those executed.  Tongue out

COndorman...I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants...hilarious!

2goggs...it's sh*t like this that is the reason WHY I gave up working for the Criminal Justice System!

That was my major at school....LOVED it...did REALLY well at it (as best as I could for attending SIU at least), and then stuff like this happens, and it really makes me sick....so now, I work in Marketing!

If I do say so myself, that man is a P-I-G!! The tape, the one we have to see over and over, is downright NAUSEATING!!

Couldn't believe this myself.  What friggin video was this judge looking at?  This guy was twice her size and he was pummeling her?  Plus didn't he already have a bunch of DUI's or police brutality reports on his record.   You know the judge and this guy are in cahoots (sp?)   Welcome to Chicago!
