Pre-race routine:

Had 2 eggs and toast for breakfast in the morning. Got all the gear, went down to Wilbraham to register. Got a bit of a tummy upset while there. May be just nerves.

Didn't have too much time for any kind of warm up.

After doing last week's Webster Tri with 800 yards, I knew I could do this. That wasn't a problem. The problem was again that I couldn't put my head under water. Started off with my head under water, but then saw all that vegetation coming right at me and just freaked out.

T1 was absolutely pathetic. Wasn't the last person coming out of the swim, but ended up being the last person leaving the transition area. The wet suit got stuck on my ankles, just wouldn't come off. Had a hard time getting my socks on. Plus, then I realized I had forgotten my water bottles in my car. I knew that bike course passes by the parking lot where my car was, so ended up taking a detour to get the water bottles.
What would you do differently?:

Check everything before the race starts. Have a mental checklist for transition area. The bike course was easy enough that didn't have to get the bottles. Could have done without it. Next time, if I forget something, no detours. Just go for it.

Was pushing hard on the bike trying to recover from the horrible T1. Had a 13 average until I hit the last upslope a little bit. At the beginning of the hill, it seemed long and big enough, so I changed to the smallest ring. Midst of it realized that I really didn't need ot put it in granny gear. That was a bit of a waste of time and effort. Stopped twice to get a drink. Thinking back, I could have easily done without the 2nd stop.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to drink out of bottles while riding. Push hard until you can't before shifting down too much.

Legs were done by the 2nd lap. Pushing on the bike, kind of did it for me on the run.

Just need to practice more bike to run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just screwed up on gear set up and stuff.

They only post the overall time. Would have liked to see the time break outs. The times above are just estimates. I think my T1 was definitely a lot longer than what is indicated above.
