Depends on the person. Ever since I got my 1 peice kit from the team, I haven't raced in a 2 piece since.

I race sprints in my one piece tri suit and longer distances in a two piece. Just because after having three kids when you have to go you have to go and my one piece has a built in bra and it take for ever to get out of.

I race in a two piece all the time.  I have a long torso, so the one piece suits don't fit very well.  They are a little short for me.

One piece for sprints and two piece for longer stuff when I may need to use a porta-potty.

I rock the onesie at the longer races and the two-piece at shorter races. I think it's a vanity thing. At shorter races I don't want to be the only dude wearing a one-piece. At longer races I don't care what I look like, I just want to be comfortable. Just personal preference I guess, but in my opine the onesie is more comfortable.

Nah 1 pieces are cool. You get to start undressing while you're running. Then it's just a quick pull and squat.

You will get some good comments too when you start taking your skin suit off while running, this is a added bonus.

Always two piece as it is easier to use porta potties if needed and not just go on the bike/run.

Fit is better with two piece as well as you have more options....I like Oomph! distance pad when doing HIM or IMs. It doesn't matter as much in sprint or oly as bike time is short.

I like 1 piece.  The top always seems to want to ride up on me.

Where does your race belt go during this quick pull and squat?

I don't remember.. Must not be too much of a hassle. I don't remember uneventful things from races. ;p

I've used a one piece for my sprints this season and a two piece for my Ironman.  Much prefer the two piece and will only use this from now on I think.  I just feel better in a two piece.

Just make sure that if you use a two-piece in a tri with an indoor swim, you've practiced diving in I had done practice swims in mine but not with a running/diving start and let's just say the people behind me got a view.

Does the same rule aply about going "commando" in the one and/or two piece as applies to bike shorts?

I don't want to show up for the race next week as the creepy guy with no undergarments.

Thanks for the quick tip.

Yes, plan on going commando - tri shorts (onesie or otherwise) are designed to be worn that way, just like bike shorts. Doing otherwise generally risks a lot of nasty chafing potential, but a few folks do prefer it (wear compression shorts under or whatever).

Cheers, Chris

I bought a one - piece before my first tri last summer and love it!  I'm a fidgeter, pulling shorts down, shirt down, fixing sports bra, etc.  so this alleviated all of that aggrevation and helped me focus more on important things, like breathing
