There's a hole in my calendar, and I'm having trouble deciding how to fill it.

Back in January I set a goal of doing one event monthly to keep focused, and build toward completing my first HIM in 2010.  So far in 2009:

Feb - 5k run
Mar - 5k run
Apr - 10k trail run
May - 10k
Jun - Sprint Tri
July - Olympic Tri
Aug - Olympic Tri (scheduled)
Sep - ?????????
Oct - 10 mile trail run (planned)
Nov - 1/2 marathon (planned)
Dec - No Events Available => Happy Holidays!

Given the goal, and considering what's already on the schedule, how could I best fill the gap? And what's the rationale? Colorado's September calendar on Trifind.com is rich with activity...

Thanks in advance for your influence and wisdom

I'd go Aquabike, just 'cause it sounds like fun before the rest of the running you've planned.

I voted for another sprint tri, since I see the two Olympics the previous two months it would be good to give a little longer recovery to start building towards that 1/2 marathon you have listed for November.  It will let you work on your transitioning some more while not having to do the distance and recovery like the past 2 months with the Olympics.

The Aquabike would be good, but at that point I'd struggle within myself whether to just go for the full HIM that day too since you'll have already done the swim and bike distances of a HIM.

I'd think the training benefits of stepping it down to the sprint to give you more experience and not having it need as much recovery as something longer would go a long way towards letting you train harder during the other days that month.

Just my two cents for course.  If you do the aquabike though let me know, I'll be there that day doing the HIM.  It would be nice to meet fellow BTers.

My convoluted logic for the aquabike is, that + Nov. 1/2 marathon => exposes me to all the 1/2 IM distances, and as a swimmer/non-runner gives me some sort of baseline to train for through the winter.

You've intuited my logic precisely...really wanted to do the Newton 8 hours, I could swim relay segments all day long.  And you get a free pair of shoes!  Haven't been able to rally anyone though

I did the race last year (8 hour, on a team) and it was a lot of fun.  It's hard though to go all out on your segments and then rest for 30-60 minutes.  I'd join you but I'm injured, but I bet if you started a thread about getting a team together, you'd get some interest.

When is it?  I'm interested.

I could be easily talked into doing the Newton, I discovered it back in January and kind of wished I was able to get into shape to do the 24 by myself.  I'd be willing to commit to a team that was looking to do it for fun and as a training tool.  Having had done my first HIM on the 12th, I might still be recovering a little.
