Anyone heading up to Tawas over Labor Day weekend?  A group of friends is heading up there (some to race, some just for the beach party), and was thinking of camping while there.

I'll be up there for the HIM.  There is camping avail in the parks up there, but I would try to book as early as possible.  Things will book up fast if they aren't already full.

May come up to watch and cheer/beach party if I have the time off from work. It's only a 45 minute drive from my place so it will be a day trip kinda deal.

Signed up for the sprint, but may switch to the Oly.  Did it last year and split a beach house up in Oscoda with another family for very little $.  They are dead up there after Labor Day and could not kiss our backside enough to get us in the place and make us happy.  This year my wife will be away for a girls weekend, so I am bringing the kids solo.  For this reason, I booked in to The Resort on the Bay side (it only like $8 more a night that looking at the road).  I figure I can get up, rack my bike and then come back up and shower and eat a little & watch part of the HIM swim if needed.  Fingers crossed that there isn't another Monsoon like last year.  The post race party was a bit of a drag in the conference rooms.  The beach should be a blast.

FWIW, I picked this one last year as my first tri based soley on the swim (as it scared the crap out of me).  I am only 5'6", but would guess I could have touched bottom on most of the swim course.  Didin't have to, but it sure helped me to rlax a bit.  The run course kicks ### too wwith a great view of the bay.

I thought this event was after Labor day weekend?  Did they change it?

FYI, there is usually a HUGE softball invitational up there that weekend.  If you plan on going and have not yet booked, you may want to get moving.

Thanks for the heads up. This is going to be my first HIM and sleeping in the car the night before and after will not go over well.
