Who here is/has dealt with IT band issues?  What treatments have worked for you?

Hey Brian, I just posted this same issue last week.  Mine flaired up severely on Thursday night and I had a Tri on Saturday.  Everyone recommended a foam roller, so I bought one at Target on Friday.  Abused the snot out of myself with it Friday night and, no kidding, had zero issues with it on Saturday.  It was my longest Tri (and run in a Tri) yet, with no problems at all.  I cannot believe how well it worked but it did.

I will tell you...it (the foam roller) hurts like h3ll to use, though, and it was sore to the touch when I got up Saturday, but I could run with no pain at all.  The best $20 I've spent in a long long time.

Good luck with it.

The Foam roller really is your best bet! I haven't found anything that works half as well, from massage, to PT. Once you get back on the road, do as much of your strength workouts on one leg, and that will help the problem from coming back. It'll strengthen your core, glutes and TFL, and improve your balance. Good Luck.

Which one did you get specifically?  Where did you get it from?  How do you use it?

The only one Target had.  It comes with a DVD to show you different ways of using it.  Very simple.

Did I mention it was painful though?

foam roller first.  red one at target works, but gets beat up pretty quick (6 months)

currenlty use TP Therapy, which I expect to last a lifetime, and should at $150:

will rock your IT Band world....gives new meaning to the phrase, "make it hurt so good."

This happened to me and I got the TP Therapy kit and started hurting myself like others have indicated but I also started making stretching a daily occurrence.  I found that I just wasn't stretching enough.

Rest.

Ice.

Foam Roller.

ART from my Chiro.

I believe the REST did the most good. But I always foam roll now days to keep it from flaring back up again.

In addition to the roller, The Stick works pretty good (especially when you cant use/carry the roller).

But, go see a good PT who is a running/tri specialist. They'll evaluate you and set you up.

Love the foam roller!  The roller, icing and stretching it always seem to work for me when I have ITB issues.  Hope you're feeling better soon!
