Hey All,

I am currently training for my first tri, (which wont be until next year). I wanted to ask you all, what is a good, fairly easy, "first" tri that is held in Ohio.

I want an open water swim, a good bike course (some hills but not killers) and a good run course (woods would be nice). I would also like a good event that has a medium amount of participants and nice organizers. Oh and a cheap registration fee would be awesome, seeing as I am a poor college student.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

Matt

How far do you want to travel in Ohio?  Where do you live now?
I have only done one race in Ohio and it was the Vermilion Triathlon (last weekend).
Are you planning on doing the Sprint distance for your first?

I did the Sprint and there were about 300 participants and 300 for the olympic.
It cost me $55 I think but there is a discount if you sign up earlier.
The swim is a beach start in Lake Erie.  The sprint bike only has a few minor hills (the olympic course is a lot more difficult in terms of hills).
The run is through a neighborhood with some trees and then through the small downtown area.
The transition area in a really nice park though!
All of the volunteers were very friendly and it was a very well organized race.
Hope this info helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I live In Warren Ohio, I am willing to go a few hours into PA or a few hours around ohio. I cant afford a hotel room so I would have to drive from home.

That sounds nice, I might try that. I am going to do a sprint since this is my first time, and im not in that good of shape, but im trying to change that.

Thanks, And any more suggestions please let me know!

Good idea on the HFP racing...Vermilion was a part of that series this summer.  It was very well organized.

Wendy International in June caters to the newbie triathlete.  Majority of the race field is first time triathletes.
