aquagirl - 2009-08-25 6:09 PM Oh man....I CRINGE at the sight of that gorgeous carbon just broken in two.....but am so glad that YOU are not broken in two!!

x2. That picture of the broken fork almost brought tears to my eyes, seriously. Great reflexes for landing though, you could have gotten a snapped neck pretty easily. Recover soon!

I cringe opening up these threads...after being on BT since '04 this summer and year seems to have way more crashes and bike/car incidents in past years

I'm glad you are mostly okay and will heal up. Lucky for you, there is a great witness that will help you.

Heal up!!!

Glad to hear you are fine. I was hit three weeks ago so, welcome to the club. A day after my crash my back and neck started to really let me know that I took an impact. Hope that you recover quickly and get back on a new bike soon. Hey, at least you caused some damage to his vehicle too. I wish that I had done some damage so the jerk that hit me could have been caught.

I'd be throwing out the F-bomb in a collision, I'm pretty sure of it!  Glad to know you are alright.  Your bike should be replaced by the auto's insurance (this is how Lance Armstrong got his second and I think 3rd bike).  I don't think you'll be fixing it, but rather replacing it.  Just be sure to give her a respectful funeral.

The new P4 looks real nice!

I'm so glad you are okay.  Definitely noticing more bicycle accidents.  Its always scary and sad.  Thank god it was just the bike that was hurt (I know, beautiful bike, but replacable).

A friend originally sent this thread to me (which I replied already) but this reply post addresses the several posts regarding more accidents.  I would say there are more accidents due to several reasons:

  1. Definitely more cyclists out there, new cyclists.  Proportionally, if you have more cyclists you have more accidents.  Add to that "new" cyclists who may not know (or follow) the local bike laws.  I honestly see a LOT of cyclists on the weekends and I see a LOT of cyclists not obeying the rules of the road.  Please note that I am in no way whatsoever that Beej is at fault here.  This is the perfect example that we as cyclists need to be alert at all times.
  2. Local/state laws do not exist or are not well-thought.  Florida is pretty good.  Unfortunately, drivers and pedestrians do not like cyclists.

Be safe!

Broken bikes are easier to mend than broken bones.

So was the driver at least apologetic and cool?

Heal up quick!

I'm glad to hear that you escaped relatively unscathed. To escape a collision like that with no broken bones is very fortunate - it definitely seems like someone was looking out for you on that one. As for the old bike, I absolutely echo the idea of hanging it in the man-cave or den as art!

Glad you're ok and don't have any major injuries.  The fork picture looks extremely familiar to me, my bike heads to the shop today for an estimate from my wreck on Monday.  Your P1 is a little more expensive and I think sustained more damage than mine.  Don't hesitate too much to call their insurance company and make sure they open an incident report though.  Oh... and they shouldn't need your auto insurance information since your car wasn't involved.  I just called yesterday about my accident and their insurance company asked me for my car insurance information.  I simply/nicely told them that my car was not involved and I'd prefer not to give them that information since it's not relevant, but if for some reason the adjuster keeps asking for it to just tell him to call me.  I'm trying to avoid any bickering/fighting between companies over who's going to pay for the damages.  I think the lady on the line simply wrote "N/A" on her form for my insurance info.

Good luck with everything, oh and don't mention that you had your head down to their insurance company.  Don't even give them a reason to think they don't have to pay.  Also, check your state laws about if any day time reflectors are required just in case they ask.

Glad you walked away.

Well, I'm going to chime in on this thread as well. It's been three weeks out since I was hit in Chicago. Broken clavicle and the ONE race I was going to due ($) is out. Poop.

I had my helmet as always and it did its job.

Glad it wasn't worse for you, Beej. Be careful out there friends.

Ouch, that stinks man. So sorry to hear it. I had a crash a few weeks ago and my steed escaped unscathed. I was more happy about that than I was worried about my road rash and separated shoulder. But then I realized that I was very lucky to not be run over/hurt worse. Glad you are not hurt worse, but man, your pretty ride is broken! Hopefully you will get a nice insurance payment to replace her (assuming its a "she").
