Sunny
Total Time = 1h 09m 32s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 14 & Under
Age Group Rank = 4/5
Pre-race routine:

Was up at 4:15am, ate regular pre-race meal, waffles and a banana at the race.
Event warmup:

Light stretching and a quick swim.
Swim
  • 07m 55s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim to the buoy was really short so there were a lot more people bunched up at the buoy. It was hard to get around the buoy because everybody was bunched up and I was getting kicked and pushed under. Once I got around the buoy it was better. It thinned out about half way to the next buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Next time the buoys are that close to the shore I am going to go out wider around the buoy so I won't get caught up in all the other people.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

I had a little bit of a hard time getting my bike shoes on because my feet were so sandy.
What would you do differently?:

Wipe my feet off on my towel
Bike
  • 34m 40s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.31 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike computer wasn't working. I found out later that my Dad put my wheel on backwards. I felt really good on the bike, It felt a lot shorter than 10 miles. The course wasn't closed but there were policemen at the intersections. I rode in the aerobars more than I usually do.
What would you do differently?:

I had a good bike leg, but I need to work on getting in my aerobars a little more. I'm still a little afraid to ride in the aerobars when there are a lot of people around me.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

I had a really good transition. I felt fine and ready to run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I had a fast transition.
Run
  • 24m 17s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 09m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

The run wasn't too bad. I started to feel really tired as I approached the turnaround, so I had to walk some. My knees felt pretty good, but they hurt a little bit after I was done(on a scale of 1-10, about a 5).
What would you do differently?:

Unzipped my trisuit a little so I wouldn't be so hot. Drink a little bit more water, but if I drink too much I get cramps.
Post race
Warm down:

Met Bethany at the finish. We waited for Emily to finish. Hung around for a few minutes, took some pictures and then went to get some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Congestion on the swim, not using my aerobars more on the bike and walking on the run.

Event comments:

The water on the run course was very warm. They messed up the results, so I left thinking I was 2nd in my age group. When I came back at 5:00pm I found out I was fourth. This was a really good race for me overall. I did this race last year and it was my best overall finish of last season for a sprint distance triathlon. This year, I went 13 minutes faster than I did last year, 1 minute on the swim, 9 minutes on the bike and 2 minutes on the run. I was really happy with my race.

That is a huge improvement over last year. You should be very proud of yourself. Good job keeping your head on the swim, too.

BTW, I'm 31, and I'm a little afraid of using the aerobars when other people are around too

Herdaughter, you're just coming along so well.  I'm so impressed at such awesome composure in these very crowded races and here you are beating most of the adults!!  MY BABY'S GROWING UP!!!!!
