Pre-race routine:

Keep in mind, I have been training for this race for about 2 or so months. I was never a swimmer. I have had a bike since Easter. I have been running for a while. My primary goal was to finish this race (no time, just finish). Now it is taime to get structured and take my times to the next level.
Swim
  • 48m 45s
  • 2000 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Bad bad bad start. After first 500 (incredibly slow) I settled down and swam. I got a little wide of the course to stay away from the pack. I slowed me down but I was keeping my heart rate in check. Came out 5 min over my goal.

What would you do differently?:

start wide and stay there.
Transition 1
  • 09m 39s
Comments:

long run with bike out of transition. I took my time getting settled in.
What would you do differently?:

Take a little less time cut this down to 5 Min
Bike
  • 3h 00m 59s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I would have to say I did pretty well on the bike considering that I have only had a bike for about 2 months.
What would you do differently?:

go a little harder at the beginning and train a little harder for the hills. I was going very slow by the top of the hills.
Transition 2
  • 09m 48s
Comments:

slow and took my time
What would you do differently?:

Take 5 min off time
Run
  • 2h 29m 26s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

right calf cramped up at mile 9. Had to run through pain for the rest of the time.
What would you do differently?:

try to extend my stride some. I have run a 1/2 marathon 35 min faster. I can definitely take some time off here

Congratulations.  I'm so impressed with only 3 months of training.  I would say you did AMAZING on the bike for 2 months of training.  Keep it up -SMO

Wow, that was a great race with so little training. Those transition times will come down now that you know what to expect. Good luck on your next race!

So was this your first 1/2? I am amazed what you achieved on so little training. Nicely done!

Thanks for the comments. After this week of rest, I will be using the Beginner Full Ironman training program. I don't have a full in mind and probably won't do one until next year. I just think the volume will help me doing a couple more halfs this year and a couple of marathons. I have an on off switch with no dimmer. I've got the triathlon bug, now it's time to start really training.
