How was the first meeting, and the club as a whole so far?

I just joined this site and the Upstate Tri Club as well.  Plan on attending the club meeting in November.  I'm a newbie to the whole scene, so I'm looking forward to meeting some folks and potential training partners.

Welcome!  I too am always looking for people to train with, but I may be too slow for you. 

I doubt that!!!  I haven't ridden or run in years, so it's been a bit humiliating.  Are you going to the Upstate Tri Club meeting in November?

The meeting this past Thursday, Feb 11th, 2010, was great!  Jay Hewitt spoke and you could tell that he does motivational speaking as a side job as well.  The folks I have met there have been so cool and open.  I thought that I would stand out like a freak because I am 250lbs, but the guys are all really supportive, just like the folks on this site.  Overall I have found that to be true since I got into Triathlons last year.  I figured the athletes would be elitist, but I have been really impressed with how encouraging and supportive everyone has been.

Hello... Is anyone doing the training duathlon on Saturday (Feb 27th) out at Furman? Sounds like a lot of fun and the weather looks like it's going to cooperate!

I'm a newbie to this too. I've never done a tri, but it is my dream for next spring. Is it OK for me to attend the Upstate Tri Club meeting this Thursday at 7:00? Anybody know how much it cost to join?
