Disney Marathon in January has a rep for being really warm.  I am thinking that I should put on more clothes than needed for at least some of my runs to simulate race conditions.

I personally would not recommend running in extra clothes.  I'm not even sure if that could "simulate" running in hotter conditions.  Part of the whole heat thing is the density of the air as well and you cannot simulate that.

But that is just me.

(You could do all your long runs indoor in a temperature controlled setting like an indoor track or something when it was cold out.  But that just sounds like torture).

For Northerners maybe!  If adding clothing affect training results I would forgo extra clothing just train, let the weather be what it will be on race day.

Long term forecasts for the SE and FL are for cooler than normal and above avg precip due to the continuance of the El Nino event.

The two times I ran Disney the starting temps were 30°F. Warm temperatures aren't a given.

I'm not an ear kind of guy. I did wear a beard for my first marathon there.Wink

Only problem with 30°F is that Disney makes you get to the staging area like three hours before the start. First year in particular it was really windy to go with that cold.

Once we started it was near perfect.

Running in a 10 x 10 room on a treadmill with the window bearly cracked can raise the temp and thin the air.... if that is fun for you.

Best resource I've seen on the subject of acclimatization suggests that you need 3-4 runs a week at heat index of 80+ for 2-3 weeks to see adaptation, followed by maintenance of 1-2 such runs per week.

No mention of wearing extra clothes.

This blog post does deal with the subject, however, and recommends against that idea.  Can't vouch for the accuracy of the content, but it is pretty thorough in treating the subject and offers some alternatives for preparation if you can't get acclimatized for your race.

(Oh, and btw:  I once went to Disney World in late December:  28 degrees.  Orange groves were freezing and it snowed in Sarasota that weekend.)

Last time I was in LA was July it was in the 80's and I was freezing.....but then we bike in 106F like it was a regular day for us here in Vegas. I just got back from Dayton Ohio and was shopping for blizzard type clothing.  Is this what they call thin blood?  And I grew up in Niagara Falls NY brrrrrr.
