Total Time = 1h 37m 54s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = W30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/41
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:15, had coffee, left for race and drank protein shake on the way.
Event warmup:

Walking to the swim start. I developed plantar fasciitis on Monday and had not run for the rest of the week. It hurt walking to the beach.
Swim
  • 19m
  • 825 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ugh. The wave was so big that it was crowded and chaotic the entire swim. I was better at sighting this time, but my goggles completely fogged up at one point and I had to stop to clear them. I am trying to figure out why my swim times are so slow compared to my training. Its very frustrating.
What would you do differently?:

Start farther up or more to the side.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Bike
  • 46m 5s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 20.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow!! I am so happy with my bike. I can't believe I did that! I had a revelation the other day. Someone asked me what my strongest leg of triathlon was, and I had never thought about that before. I realized it was the bike and that just gave me such a mental boost.
My feet hurt at the end. I think I maight have altered my form a bit due to my foot issue.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my stupid aero bottle was on correctly. It wasn't so I was messing with it the entire time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Someone threw their bike in my spot, so it took me forever to rack my bike. I was pissed.
Run
  • 29m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

My first mile was 8:49, second went down to 9:20, 3rd was 9:33. I am going to blame most of this poor time on the sand, thank you very much. I felt strong, I kept my HR way up there. It's just hard in the sand. My foot didn't bother me much.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I got my HR up into zone 4+ pretty quickly and held it there. I really felt like I left everything on the course this time which is a good accomplishment for me. I am usually not aggresive enough with myself and have too much left in me at the end.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inability to perform to my ability in open water.

Event comments:

My foot has felt better since this race. I don't know why. These races are such a learning experience. I do them mostly for the gained knowledge that racing gives so I an kick butt when my next A race comes in August.

Great race Jessica.. Glad you had fun. That sand looked like it really was the pitts. You were flying on that bike girl...yeah I was the one yelling for you at the end of the bike.

Jessica, that bike was awesome!  Glad to hear the foot didn't bother you.  Running on sand is a toughie though.   Great race.  Congrats!

Hey, that's a great race. 13th in your AG? That's better than I've ever placed.

About the swim, where did you seed yourself? I found that I do better ( or have done better ) if I just seed myself in the front from the start. I avoid the meelee in the middle and get past the people in my way. If you're a stronger swimmer, I highly recommend that, as you can use your swim to build a gap over the rest of the pack and let your real swim speed show.

I would definitely agree as well that your bike is strong! 20+ mph average speed is killer!

Awesome race.

Chris, you are right about the swim start. I started in a bad position. I learn something with every race. I haven't picked a race for next month yet.
