Subject: Food or calorie logs on line
Hi guys

I'm about to start my winter weight loss push.  Can anyone recommend a good website where you can enter your food and exercise and possibly keep your weight recorded?

I've used calorie king but I was hoping there might be a free or more basic service out there.

Thanks

www.thedailyplate.com

It is well designed, allows you to track the amount of calories spend via exercise (against the day's total) and has quite an extensive database of foods.

Hosted by Livestrong...free.

I prefer dailyplate.com but there is also fitday.com and sparkpeople.com as far as free ones... and a really nice one that has a small monthly fee is myfooddiary.com.

I've tried FitDay and the Daily Plate.  I like Daily Plate better.  Haven't tried BTs.  I guess I need to investigate.

I was using dailyplate.com for awhile, but it was so sloooooow and unwieldy that I just couldn't take it anymore.  Now I use dailyburn.com, but I paid for the pro so I can get all the details.
Sparkpeople.com is actually my favorite free option, but unfortunately I can't use it at work because half their ads are site-blocked.

I currently use sparkpeople.com.  I keep trying to use BT but it leaves me unsatisfied for some reason that I quickly forget.  I think it's because it's lacking the weightloss tools that sparkpeople has and a less than complete database for non-US users.

Fitday question;

Do you factor in workouts for the baseline "Lifestyle Activity" or do you only include that info in the activities section?

I don't want to put down highly active and also add workouts if the system will calculate more calories than I am actually burning.

x2 on the livestrong.com and  the daily plate.  I have it linked up to my phone and can log food while on the go...   I remember all the good stuff I eat but sometimes the bad snacks get forgotten, nice to be able to add the info as it goes down.

If you're looking for one with an Australian Food Database, try www.calorieking.com.au. It's free too.

I agree with the other two posts - one stop shop.  I was using Fitday.com and liked it.  The ability to input your workouts was very poor.   BT log may not be as detailed as Fitday but when you look at the whole pkg of workouts, nutrition etc. I choose this site.

do activity separately.  I used it and had pretty good results (I like the graphs of the cals in vs cals out) but after a while I got sick of the slow loading times.  I think it is better now, but I do believe that the BT food tracker is better for custom foods, at least in my experience, but it doesn't give you a graph of how much you burned, you've got to keep track of that yourself (although with the workout tracker you can start to figure out how much you burn per hour)

I was super excited about livestrong.com until I found out that they only keep the information for 45 days, unless you pay for a Gold membership.

It is a pay site but worth the money in my mind. Well put together and always changing.

I like this free site which is nice because you can add food items to the database.  http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

I'm a fan of the BT nutrition tracker as well.  I've had very good weight loss results while using it.
