15 miles

You should be able to ride it, because 16.5 -17.0 miles of the 18.2 mile course is public roads. The rest in the park. It cost $4 per vehicle to get in the park. There is a church that you can park at about 1-2 miles before the park if you don't want to go into the park.

I am sure there will be a lot of people out there Friday and Saturday riding/driving the course.

The title in travelocity is "Crossland Bossier City"

3070 EAST TEXAS
Bossier City, LA 71111

It looks like it is one of those "Extended StayAmerica" places

That is pretty close to places to eat and a mall.

Easy to find and one of the closest to the race site (~10-15 miles).

For $40 I say it would be an excellent deal.

You are staying a 1/4 mile off of one of the busiest street in Shreveport/Bossier (Airline Drive). There should be a huge parking lot behind you to take your dog for a walk with plenty of lighting.

So to answer your question, yes, it should be safe (well lighted, etc).

Any plans to get together? I'm up to:

  1. Meeting at packet pickup, noonish Saturday, grabbing lunch, then driving to the race site and previewing the bike route;
  2. Getting together somewhere for dinner Saturday evening

Not sure yet if we'll  have the three little bears with us or not...

I'm not doing the race (my coach is no fun, lol), but if y'all get together for dinner, I would love to come out to meet some more BTer's and wish all of you luck. I might come out to watch the race on Sunday, but I have to get in a 14 mile run that day so I may do it in the morning before it gets too hot.

I'll be getting there early saturday morning with a lifelong friend who wants to begin triathlon next year.  He got a weekend pass from his wife, and jumped at the opportunity to come over and check out the race.  I'm up for lunch, driving the course, dinner, whatever.

Lunch:

Places near packet pickup:
Bibentucker's Bagels - Adjacent to Sportspectrum
Monjuni's- Best Local Italian Place. Right next to Sportspectrum. (would be excellent place for dinner)
Subway
McCallister's Deli
Copeland's
Ruby Tuesday
The Roadhouse
Macaroni Grill

There is also FatBurger, Cheeburger, Whataburger, Cane's Chicken Strips, ChickFilA, Golden Corral, etc nearby

For Dinner:
I am assuming most people would want to do Italian that night to get some good carbs in. So for some of Italian places are:
Monjuni's - Excellent bread, sweet sauce, great dishes, reasonably priced
Olive Garden
Macaroni Grill

All are within a mile from Sportspectrum, so they would be easy to find.

My recommendation:
McCallister's or Subway for Lunch (Bibentucker's will be overwhelmed with all of the packet pickup people)

Monjuni's or Olive Garden for Dinner.

If we want, I can call Monjunis and see if they would reserve a room that will sit about 20-30 people for us that night.

We just need to decide a time and where to go eat.

I checked the Menu at Monjuni’s and it looks fine to me if Michael recommends it. I have no problem with Macaroni Grill, that's where I usually head for a pre-race dinner in a strange city. I'll check with the wife to see if we're bringing the kids, let you know this evening how many of us will be there.

For lunch, again Subway is one of my regular pre-race lunch stops, so that or McAllisters is OK by me. How about we try to meet at packet pick-up for noon, take care of that business, then grab lunch?

Sounds good.

Let's do Subway, because it is only 3 or 4 stores down from Sportspectrum.

I will call Monjuni's and see how many people their back room will hold. If it is large enough to hold us, I will make reservations, if not we will go to Macaroni Grill.

So if you plan on having dinner with us that night, let us know how many are coming so I can make reservations accordingly.

Coming in on Friday. My Mom lives in Shreveport, and I need to spend some considerable time with her. I'm sort of sneaking the tri in. Enjoy Monjuni's. Oh man! The sauce!
