Well what has pissed me off about Jillian lately are her "weight loss" commercials on TV. She is endorsing "fat burning pills" with her name stamped on them. WTF? REALLY? Just seems to go completely against her "eat right and workout to lose weight" ideals. Ya know? http://www.skin-one.com/jillianmichaels.html?OVRAW=jillian%20michae... Jillian impressed me AND pissed me off this week... Uugh I saw these at Walgreens last night. Thought the same thing. |

I'm glad to see Bob is sticking with diet and exercise only... for now. |

Tara looks great, and Dane has gained a lot of weight. It looks like he didn't make the bike cutoff. She was just there to watch her boyfriend and Dane race. It's sad to know that many of the contestants gain some if not most of their weight back. I have looked at pictures of past contestants and that is usually the case 2-3-4 years later. Is there anyting to the "people-who-lose-weight-too-fast always gain it back" theory, or is it just back to bad habits? I suspect the latter... Brian I always look around at the home visits - who has a fat wife and kids, the food that is out (cupcakes?) etc. That to me is the better indication of their success and the probability that they will fall back into thier old habits. EXACTLY! You see the "homecoming spreads" they do... and there is nothing but JUNK laid out! Gosh, this person was obese, lost tons of weight... and they get welcomed home by a table full of food they can't eat. ????? |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Biggest Loser 11/17 - Spoilers! Thought you all might find this interesting from today's NYT: www.nytimes.com/2009/11/25/business/media/25loser.html Appraently Ryan, the season 1 winner, has gaines back most of the 122 lbs. he lost, and he admitted that he dropped some of the weight by fasting and dehydrating himself to the point that he was urinating blood. One doctor, not affiliated witht hte hsow, is waiting for a contestant to have a heart attack. Dr. Huizienga admitted that the 1 mile race at the beginning of the season was a mistake. Kai Hibbard from season 3 admitted that contestants would drink as little water as possible the 24 hours before weigh in, and when the cameras were off would work out wearing as much clothing as possible. Also, apparently the release forms are pretty severe and only 50% keep all or most of the weight off. Doug |

DolphinGirlMB - 2009-11-25 9:34 AM I guess I didn't miss much and shouldn't be mad that I sat on the turnpike for an hour in traffic last night? No, you didn't miss much. It was a lot of "looking back" type stuff. Really the only comment I have from last night is that Alison's dress was very ugly...it did not suit her at all. I usually LOVE her outfits. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Biggest Loser 11/17 - Spoilers! lvthgme - 2009-11-25 9:33 AM I was thinking about the show and about major weight loss in general last night...and I decided that for most of these people it's amazing if they DO keep the weight off. The fact that many don't keep it off simply points out how great it is when any can do it. Remember that these people are all very obese BECAUSE of something...whatever that is, it very well might not be solved in a few months away from life. Anyway, I just felt like so many people want to say the show is a failure or bad etc. b/c many might not keep the weight off, but I think that's backwards thinking. It's not magic, it's a process. It was interesting how they touched on their relationships last night. Notice how until the end of the episode - when Allison asked Allen - he never talked about returning home to his family? It was all about returning to firefighting. Then his wife confessed that they hadn't been connecting. And then you see Liz in these clips - sitting in front of the tv shovelling food in her mouth all alone - confesses to the money woman that her hubby and she have been distant and arguing. Danny and Rudy always talking about how they are now becoming the man their wives deserve to have. Obviously their eating/issues are impacting their primary relationships. I found the stats on finance and obesity interesting - earning $7,000 less per annum, higher insurance etc That link about Tara was pretty cool. I wonder if she has a job. And to get her own trainer... oooo sweet! Amazing concept hmmm? Miserable and overweight - go on national television and lose the weight and poof! Make a living training and participating in marathons/triathlons. You aren't even expected to win!! |

Extreme Veteran 573 Sherman Oaks, CA | Subject: RE: Biggest Loser 11/17 - Spoilers! saw this article in today's NY Times. Very interesting. I still stand by what i've always wished they would do w the contestants, which is don't have them competing to win $. send them home with a life coach for a year instead. Get their whole family into it, showing them how to juggle work, life, home, kids, cooking, eating, exercise, being active, vacationing, etc. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/25/business/media/25loser.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&hp |
