I have been bitten by the triathlon bug and after a number of Sprint and Olympic distance races I will be competing in Ironman 70.3 in Jan and then the full in April.

I have no real interest in Road racing and the only reason I ride on my road bike is training for Tri

Firstly, If I am only going to buy one new bike so would a road converted bike be a better decision

I don't think so at this stage so the next question is which bike to choose?

all three of those are going to fit completely different.  Have you been fitted?

What are you wanting to get out of the bike?

What's your budget look like?

Well first things first I don't live in the States and generally our prices are more expensive than yours however all three bikes are around my budget at a push Smile

For comparison purposes the pricing is as follows

B12 - $3 333
Planet X(Sram Force) - $2 937
F4 - $2 866

The reason I threw in the F4 is if I decide to go for a road bike then I would choose this bike and convert it with some tri bars and a Fast forward profile design seatpost. Therefore having a good Road bike and a tri conversion when needed

However my main focus and what I am interested in is triathlon so I thought a tri bike would be better. The thing is we don't have a lot of tri-bar legal races in Cape Town where I live.....maybe 4 a year which is pushed to 6 if I do 70.3 and ironman.

I ride a Planet-X.  Nice bike.  Ended up building up a bike for much cheaper than I could have purchased something completely built for.

If you are interested in a planet-x, now would be a good time, they are having tons of sales in the US and I think in the UK as well.

Here is a good review of the B12

http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/FeltB12-2009.shtml

I would imagine you can't go wrong with either bike, but I am surprised the PX is so close in cost to the Felt.  Ifyou buy a Felt you are getting a complete bike, where the PX will be a frame with components.

Stack and reach on the small Planet-X
49.0/39.6

Stack and reach on the smaller Felt B12

46/37
48/39

So they seem like they would fit similarly.  Though the smaller felts use 650 wheels (at least the ones they have stack and reach for on Slowtwitch)

I am 5'8 with 30" inseam and ride a small PX
