pappy - 2010-11-18 9:56 PM Well, did a great two-hour ride this morning and now packing up my bike for the long journey. The next 5 days will take me from the Philippines to Hong Kong for a day, then San Diego via LAX to take in the MNF game against the Broncos, then Houston for an overnight layover getting into Cozumel on the 24th. Race goal: Just finish. If I make the Sunday Night Football kickoff between the Chargers and the Colts with a cold beer in hand, I'll be elated....heck, even if it's the 2nd half kickoff I'll be happy! Good luck everyone!

Damn, that is a long journey.  Talk about jet lag and throwing off your sleep schedule.

ON another IM thread they started a list and everyone was posting there username/race number/first name.  Thought that was a pretty good idea, so I'll start.

I'm trying to decide what to wear for the swim.  I've never done a triathlon with an ocean swim so I don't know if the salt water would cause problems if I wore tri shorts and skipped the changing tents.  What do you all think?

The salt water shouldn't hurt your tri shorts at all.  I think Blackbud is wearing tri shorts to skip the changing tents too.  He wanted to wear a pink rhinestone thong but I told him "Look, if you want to wear your wife's underwear, you go right ahead, but do it in your own home behind closed doors." He's a good friend, but he's just not right in the head.  I think all the time spent in the sun training for this crazy event has really warped him.

I've done a half in the ocean (Gulf Coast 2x) and didn't have any problems. I do not plan to change at all during the race. Just lube up generously!

Thanks everyone.  I wasn't sure if the salt water would cause chaffing issues.  I'm so excited I can't even concentrate at work.

After the swim you run under some water hoses to rinse off going into T1 which helps. I didn't have chaffing issues from the salt water.  However, there were teeny tiny jellyfish during the swim that we almost invisible but I could feel little pricks on my legs and arms when I swam from them.  Good thing is that the stings didn't hurt- they were just an annoyance.

Im changing in both transition areas. I want the extra padding for the ride and the dryness for the run. lol I have done a half in same shorts all day and feel that my butt would benefit from the extra padding. lol

My # 185 Matt  staying in the Palace.
Picking up some new shoes for my bike and packing it this weekend. Gettin crazy excited.

Agreed! I'm gonna be slow, so I  might as well be comfortable.

At this point, you shouldn't ship the bike. See some of the earlier posts here about customs and delays.
Box your bike and bring on the plane. The Airline will charge you, but it "should" be safe. Your LBS can box it in a case, or even in one of the cardboard boxes they ship in.
I have traveled internationally with a bike (not to a race) with my bike in a cardboard shipping box.
If you are flying to cancun and taxi/ferry over, it will be a bit of a hassle, but should be doable based on what I read last year.

*Jen* - 1413 - I like this number!

I may swim in my bathing suit and do a full change in T1.  I've never swam in my tri clothes before (unless they were under a wetsuit), so I want to do what's most familiar/comfortable for the swim.  I'll likely throw on running shorts or skirt in T2.  Takes about 10 seconds.

Is anyone checking the weather yet?

I checked out the forecast for the 28th and right now the prediction is high of 74, low 62, scattered showers, winds of 11 mph out of the NNE and 82% humidity.

I'm swimming in my tri kit with a DeSoto Liftfoil on top. Had no issues is the salt water at FL with this setup.
