I know this has been done a lot, but most of them are older posts, so I am asking again.  My wife has started training for duathlons and triathlons as well and we are sharing a 305.  Normally this wouldn't be a major problem, but she works out in the morning at work, therefore taking it with her and I work out during the day, so I don't have it.

Ultimately, i am planning on doing an IM next year so I know the battery life is better, and in the water is pretty useless other than keeping time, but I can get the 310 for significantly less than retail, so that is why I am considering it.

Anyone having any major issues with the 310 that would discourage me from getting ?

I have both and the 305 sits on the shelf collecting dust.

Don't put the 310 on your handlebars with or without the quick release. Apparently the beastie launching itself off under a car's tire was not isolated to me. Garmin has been fixing them under warranty, though, so it's more a matter of annoyance than money out of pocket. Look at the "other" tri site on the 310 thread if you want to see how frequent it is.

Still, I'd buy a 310 before I got a 305 again.

i never had the 305 but have fr50.  310 is a whole new world having gps and all.

as far as issues.  i had none so far about 2 months training with the watch.  i have done some bricks in open water and i am very happy with the watch, it is slightly bulky and might get you looks when you wear it to the gym, but as far as perforamnce, i wouldn't want any other watch.

Thanks for the input on the "launching" problem.

I am not too concerned about the bulkyness, considering it is smaller than the 305 that I already have, not to mention I already get some strange looks, when a 215 pound guy takes off his shoes to run on the treadmill.Smile

I have both, get the 310 much better battery life and lots of nice upgrades like vibrates when you do your laps, and it gets the satellite signal much much faster.

I don't know what kind of a deal you can get on the 310. But if I had to get something now, it would be the 305 (I've already got one). The only thing today that would change my mind is if I had an ANT+ power meter then I'd get a 310.
