Okay, I am getting really anxious now. My first real tri is this Sat. My base training has been very inconsistent. Basically I know that i can do each portion individually but I have not done ANY BRICK WORK!!
Am I foolish for entering? I just really want to participate and lack the patience to wait. I know it is going to be painful
Has anyone else jumped the gun like this? I do not care if I finish last but now I am getting scared of not finishing....ahhhh only 5 more days...

I think I'd show up and count it as a learning experience.  Unless you're really in terrible shape you really ought to be able to finish, after all, you can WALK 3.1 miles, right?  (I'm assuming this is a sprint.)

Yeah. I would just say "what the hell". If you don't have a time goal and you simply want to finish, go for it, and just slow up if you feel like you're pushing it too hard.

I always do this. I get bored and sign up early for a race knowing I am not ready for it. Do it anyway. After every race I do like that, I think "Damn this tri. I am NEVER doing another race!". But after the race you think and analyze the race and you get hooked. Go do the race. You will enjoy yourself and you will learn a lot. Like others have said, even if you have to walk part of it, do it.

Just do it!

Even if you end out walking the run, you'll have an idea of what's going on with your training.  Think of it as a 3 sport brick with transition practice thrown in that you'll be doing with a bunch of other people. Better DFL, then DNF, which is better then DNS.

A great piece of advice I was once given, "I don't regret the things I've done, rather the things I haven't done".  Best of luck to you.

First, calm yourself.  You will have plenty of company when you get there.  A big portion of the field is usually comprised of beginners many of who will be in the same boat more or less as you.  Just go ahead and do it.  Don't try to compete with anyone ... pace yourself, run your race and you should be fine.  Take your time to change in the transition areas; that is usually the worst part for beginners.  And remember that that putting on a jersey on a wet torso is almost impossible.  I you have to wear a top, wear it in the swim ... it will save you time and aggravation.

Oh, and have a great first triathlon!  :-

Thanks everyone! Yes, I would truly regret it if I did not show up so I will like everyone said just take my time and walk the 4 miles if I have to at the end.

Pacing, pacing, pacing. I guess I can't say it enough. We've all made the same mistake too. In my first tri I went out too hard on the swim, got caught up in "racing" everyone else. That's the biggest mistake you can make. You know how fast you need to go in training to finish each event, so just do that pace. You want to finish each leg feeling you are ready to start the next one. The only person you are racing is yourself. Go easy on the swim, back it down just a bit from your normal biking speed, and you'll have something left. That plus adrenalin will help you on the run. And you won't even finish last. Have fun, and while you're racing, keep telling yourself "I'm doing it...I'm out here, in the game!"

Come back Saturday night and tell us all about it!

In the water, take it easy, think that you are in a big pool with a couple of friends swimming on your side, if you got tired swimming, do slower strokes and breath deeply.

Don't go too hard on the bike, so you'll have legs for the run.  And another advise, before finishing the bike, spin at 100+ with an easy gear, you will have good legs for the run.

And in the run, pace your self, if you normally do 8 minute miles training, most of the time, you can't maintain that pace in a tri, so don't push yourself too hard.

And most important of all, HAVE FUN!
