Extreme Veteran 1996 Halifax, Nova Scotia | Subject: RE: What are your BIG tri goals this year?? This will be season 15, I think, for me. There was a 2 year health break preceded by a 10 year build-the -career break. I'm old. My 2 goals for this year are 1) to complete a full sprint with no walk breaks- that would be quite an accomplishment for me. If I can't do that I suspect I will retire from the sport. 2) to finish in under 1'30', though I suspect that might not be possible. I'd really like to finish the Shubie Sprint before the race director's Mom's cookies are all gone. 1'35" would be acceptable. |

Finish IMSG, just finish; last year I would have said sub 12 but after a signifigant injury I'll just be happy to toe the line and finish. Do well in the Tinman, its pretty much like the Kona of San Bernardino, but alot shorter and easier. |

Considering I had two races last year and in the first my chain fell off and in the second I went off course (this one wasn't my fault) this year my goals: 1. To actually finish a race with no major mishaps. 2. Finish an olympic with no major mishaps 3. Swim a sub 1:40 in a 3.2 mile OWS coming up in May. |

Extreme Veteran 409 Tampa, FL | Subject: RE: What are your BIG tri goals this year?? I just REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want to do ONE Triathlon again!! I've been out the last two years with multiple overuse injuries--its been a painful and emotionally exhausting ride but I'm hoping I'm finally out of the woods!! I've made a lot of progress the last few months. I just can't give up--I love this sport too much! So for me, I'll be THRILLED if I can do a minisprint at the end of the summer (even if I have to walk/run). Even better would be our local sprint--the last race I ran before I fell apart. Wish me luck!!! |

Hey Gritty -- love the focus of your goals and the inclusion of 'taking care of family matters' along the way. It's a challenge sometimes to fit everything in but with a bit of planning and getting others aligned to supporting your goals, all of your dreams can be accomplished. Good luck!! Chris |

Even making that small commitment to sign up for a race can give you a massive boost of adrenaline and focus to make it happen, and keep a priority on training at a pace that eases you into the 3 disciplines and let's your body grow and strengthen to avoid injuries. YOU CAN DO IT!! Chris |

Hey Blairrob -- 1'30' is definitely possible with a good training program and time for your body (and mind!) to build up to it. It's amazing what the body can do when you train at the right pace for you; you'll be amazed at the progress you can make. And it doesn't mean you need to train for hours every day. Imagine what it would feel like to beat 1'30' AND without walking!! Have you got your specific sprint race in mind? Are you registered? Chris |

Hi Calimavs -- I did my first HIM in Monaco (awesome course!) in 2008. When I finished (6:30) I thought "...bloody hell, never doing that again..." but then 3 days later while lying on the beach below the mountains we had to climb 3 times, all I could think about was wanting to do it again and again and again forever!!! Which race are you doing? Do you have any time goal or thought on how you'll plan to finish? Chris |

Imagine what it would feel like to beat 1'30' AND without walking!! Have you got your specific sprint race in mind? Are you registered? Chris Hey Chris, thanks for the support, it's much appreciated. The reason my goals are a bit of a stretch for me is that I ran into some heart problems when I hit 40 that curtail my ability to train and race. When the heart issue first cropped up I was doing 1'22"s for sprints and each year I lose a couple of minutes (or three) so 1'35'' in 2010 would be a feat. Once upon a time I was a blazing fading 2:20 Oly guy and it kinda sucks to be going the other way, but on the other hand I'm lucky in a way to be going at all. If I race next year I will do one or two in Nova Scotia, probably one in Maine or New Hampshire, and perhaps one in Avignon. We'll see when the FFtri posts their schedule. What about you? Doing any on the continent this year? Blair |

Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: What are your BIG tri goals this year?? 2010-Second Year Training Big goals: 1. First Marathon - Go under 3:40 and lead wife to a BQ (her first mary too) 2. Complete a 2nd HIM and go under 5 hours (stretch goal but I think attainable given right conditions and training from here to August or September) 3. AG podium at a small local sprint (dependent on who shows up, but based on my first sprint...given where I'm at now...I'd have it). Those are the BIHAGs this year. |
