Entered in my 1st HIM in September (Rev3 Cedar Point). All the other races and training is geared toward having a good day there. Goal is to go under 6 hours.

Goals for 2010.
1. finish Western States 100
2. sign up for IMWI for 2011. I need to avenge my crappy race in 2009.
Happy training everyone

1. Train smart and stay injury free
2. Finish IMWI
3. BQ in marathon (note that this is secondary to finishing IMWI, which means adhering to goal #1)
4. Encourage hubby as he trains for his first marathon (which he's training for because he thinks due to goal #2 the only time he'll see me is if he trains with me)

My first tri is in May.  HIM in Orlando.  I want to finish the race before they close up the trailer and leave town..    Just finish on my own two feet and not have to visit the medical tent or hospital..

Just finish.  Have fun and live to tell about it. Its a long ways from where I came from..

First year to try tri's. Goals are simple; don't die. Seriously, though. I have planned 5 sprints and 1 Oly.  First sprint is in April. Then I would like to improve my time over each sprint and finish the Oly in September.

I am really enjoying the training and hope to remain injury free.

blairrob - 2010-02-10 12:11 AM This will be season 15, I think, for me. There was a 2 year health break preceded by a 10 year build-the -career break. I'm old.
My 2 goals for this year are 1) to complete a full sprint with no walk breaks- that would be quite an accomplishment for me. If I can't do that I suspect I will retire from the sport.
2) to finish in under 1'30', though I suspect that might not be possible. I'd really like to finish the Shubie Sprint before the race director's Mom's cookies are all gone. 1'35" would be acceptable.

Hey Blairrob -- 1'30' is definitely possible with a good training program and time for your body (and mind!) to build up to it. It's amazing what the body can do when you train at the right pace for you; you'll be amazed at the progress you can make. And it doesn't mean you need to train for hours every day. Imagine what it would feel like to beat 1'30' AND without walking!!
Have you got your specific sprint race in mind? Are you registered?

Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for the support, it's much appreciated.
The reason my goals are a bit of a stretch for me is that I ran into some heart problems when I hit 40 that curtail my ability to train and race. When the heart issue first cropped up I was doing 1'22"s for sprints and each year I lose a couple of minutes (or three) so 1'35'' in 2010 would be a feat. Once upon a time I was a blazing
fading 2:20 Oly guy and it kinda sucks to be going the other way, but on the other hand I'm lucky in a way to be going at all.
If I race next year I will do one or two in Nova Scotia, probably one in Maine or New Hampshire, and perhaps one in Avignon. We'll see when the FFtri posts their schedule.
What about you? Doing any on the continent this year?
              Blair

Certainly can understand the feel of 'going the other way'. Even more important to have the goals you do then as that gives you focus, drive and determination throughout your training and racing. Of course, all that adds up to having a purpose for all that effort...and as cliche as it sounds, it's about the journey, not the destination. I'm sure not only does your focus and determination flood over to other areas of your life, it also acts as an inspiration for those around you (even if they don't say it). Keep going muh'man!!

I'm currently based in Dublin, Ireland and my task this weekend is to find local races this spring. Failing that, definitely do some around London and hope to get to the continent for a race as well. Love the exotic flavour of the fields and mountains...and sunshine you don't get in Ireland or England!!

I just signed up for my first 1/2, the Augusta 70.3 in September. I have yet to attempt an Oly, but have completed several sprints and a couple of International distances.

Main goal is to swim much better as compared to last year in any event I enter.  Two races I'd like to enter to compete against my times from last year.  Otherwise maybe an Oly and HIM later in the year.  Continue to have fun training and doing races every now and then.

2. Train consistently through the year

Cut ten minutes from my sprint time last year: 1 min on the swim, 2 min on transitions, 3 min on the run and 4 min on the bike.  Fortunately my transition times last year were terrible, so this is a pretty realistic goal.  Laughing

PR in 5k, 10k, Sprint Duathlon, Sprint and Oly Tris, and go under 6:00 on my first HIM.  All are definitely attainable.  Starting to get really excited about this year!

better time at each race over last year.

help my out of shape little bro and sis d their first team tri - they were both awesome high school swimmers in teh 80s but have not made good health choices in over 20 years

help my 5 year old complete her first tri (after she turns 6) - she can swim 25 yards in under a minute, run 400 meters in 2 minutes - can ride her bie fast BUT will not give up the training wheels

not sacrifice family for tris (I LOVE THEM MORE)

do a sub 5 hour HIM

avg over 22 mph in all sprint tris on the bike

Hey Crowny2 -- great goal...me too! But that is a big stretch goal for me. Have only done one sprint before and need to make significant improvement...hoping that I was so inefficient in my first that I can make significant gains in each discipline and transitions. What's your age group and estimated time you need?

Go get'em!!
