Welcome aboard...don't worry about losing your mind, this place is a mental asylum Laughing

Just make sure to get your training in, take your time, and have fun. BT has some good training plans to use as a guide. Swim lessons are always a good idea to build up some good habits and muscle memory

Yes, go for it! I have convinced so many people over the years to give it a go. I'm 47 and have done 1 or 2 sprints a year for the last 15 years. For me, it's been a way to stay in shape in what is my off season(hockey is #1).
So many people have this preconceived notion that all triathletes are these 5% body fat, perfectly sculpted human beings. They are not! I guarantee that if you go to any local sprint tri, USAT or not, about 5 to 10% of the athletes are what you see on the TV or in magazine ads, 70 to 80% are weekend warriors that keep themselves in relatively good shape (like me and you it sounds like) and the remaining look like they shouldn't be doing it but you know what? THEY DO IT! And that's what's important. And the great thing about the tri community is, is that the person struggling just to cross the finish line in last place is getting just as big applause if not bigger for making it than the person who finished first. Do it, you won't regret it!

At some point in our lives the road ahead splits into two and we have a choice to make. To gently go down that age-related decline by watching TV, playing bingo, etc OR we can do something exciting, wild and crazy. We can push ourselves to the limit and live life.

"Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night"  - Dylan Thomas

I think you made the right choice!
(Disclamer: as a soccer-dad and triathlon addict, I may be biased. I'm also over-caffinated right now)

I agree with getting the training effort in and HAVE FUN!. I did my first Sprint last Labor Day and had a great time, intentionally, that was my first goal. Planning on a few more this year. It's a great way to exercise with a bunch of new friends!
