Olathe's swim team Coolwaves is conducting a spring swim clinic, coached by Laurie Reaburn and her staff. Laurie is nationally ranked IM swimmer and a coach. The swim clinic is tailored to masters swimmers and triathletes. For those of you swimming at Lifetime Fitness under Eric, this will be an extension of similar coaching style.
I don't swim for the team, but my kids do and I enjoy watching their practice, filled with excellent structure and quality work. I warmly recommend this clinic to any of you guys and girls swimming this triathlon season. Here is the link:

The dates are:

04/24/2010    intermediate (the one geared towards triathletes

My pleasure. These people truly coach, the don't just hand out workouts. I will be attending it myself too. It is never too much supervised stroke work.

I did one of their clinics a few years ago when they brought in Coach Campbell from KU.  Came away with a lot of good advice and these clinics go to help out the team financially.  I would definately recommed this for anyone looking to improve their swim.

Yep, I believe the swim team benefits from fees. On the coaching side, it is a little different from what you had back then. This time, it is team's Head Coach Laurie Reaburn and her coaching staff.

What a great group of people!  Coach Laurie was fantastic.  I thought I may be a bit advanced for the beginner session, but like someone else said, you can't beat supervised stroke instruction, the amazing thing was, I was the only person who showed up for the clinic!  I got an hour and a half with 2 swim instructors all by myself!  For $30?  Can't beat that deal anywhere.  The coach and her staff are awesome, and I look forward to more sessions with her.  Thanks atasic.

Alex - Thanks for the note on the clinic.  I really enjoyed the session and the underwater filming of the stroke.  Please let me know when they hold the next clinic....Can't hurt to get this type of instruction on a regular basis.

Loved it to death. If picture is worth a thousand words, than video is priceless. There is no better way of finding out what you really are doing in the water.
The drills were awesome and had natural progression in focus. Laurie just impressed me even more. No wonder why my son goes to her practice with such an enthusiasm. Just as Eric mentioned, I think they are both from the same school of thought. I read a lot on swimming and her stroke methodology is up to date and in line with what is being coached at many of the best swim teams and groups around the country. After two months of only twice a week on her team, my son broke two DII times, dropped 15sec in every 50 race and over 35sec in every 100 race he entered. Prior to that he spent 3 years on Blazers team splashing around with zero stroke or any kind of guided work.
I will be bugging her about more of these. I think the more interested we get, the more they are going to see a benefit in their team fund raising effort.
It was a fun group and I had a blast. Glad you liked it.

Alex,

Thanks for posting this (If you hadn't I probably would not have heard about it).

The clinic was excellent.  What an eye opener to see all what's wrong with the way I swim (thanks to the video).  It's amazing to see how my stroke improved after just 1.5 hours of instruction.  I think I got more personal attention during this clinic than 2 years in high school swimming .

Awsome job by coach Laurie and her assistant.
