All anyone else can do is give some suggestion or ideas that may trigger you into action. Here are some things to think about: First you have to decide is doing this important to you. If it is, then you have to figure out your priorities to manage your time to get in the training to make it happen. Next to help keep your training on track, sign up for a triathlon to have a purpose for training. Tell your family and/or close friends about this commitment so you won't just forget about it on days you don't feel like training. Then get your a** out the door and do it. Only you can do that. This.... LOL--so true! Only you can get yourself out the door...we can nudge you, but only you can do the work it takes...and a lot of this is mental attitude. If you think you can't...you won't. Yeah, as inspiring as that little quote is, it is true. And I'm going to do that. |

Master 1903 Portland, Oregon | Subject: RE: Need help staying motivated!!!!!! An event is good. Once you pick one, get your training plan together - remember to allow for 'life' to happen so that it's realistic, and then when the blahs hit - ACT like you have motivation. I have said to myself, "If I were a motivated person, I would go do my workout." And then I pretend I'm one of those motivated sorts and go DO it. I always feel better once I'm out there and especially once I'm done. I have also been known to say to myself, "Self, you have to go run. You're supposed to do 3 miles, but if you just put your shoes on and do 1 mile, you can stop." Once I'm out there, well, it always seems pretty silly to stop, so I finish the workout. |

Extreme Veteran 717 Chicago | Subject: RE: Need help staying motivated!!!!!! It happens to me sometimes/often too Lauren. Keep your head up. I like the advice of signing up for a race...that way you have a goal to work towards. Also, remember to log your workouts. I like looking back at mine to see how much time/distance I put in (I particularly like the graphs). I just started last year (did 2 sprints). Trying to do more this year and hopefully an Olympic too but I need the motivation as well from time to time. |

Your right, its just dreading the workout that I'm trying to get past, I really don't know why thats so hard for me. That's why I said just put a pair of shoes on and see what happens. If you get them on and even just hoof it around the block, chances are the rest of the workout will get done--and even if it doesn't, you got out and did something!!! So true, it's amazing how it's so easy to take this feeling for granted, and now I realize, how much of a blessing it is that I can run, that is really motivational for me. Thank you for pointing that out to me. |
