Hi again everyone,

I just thought I'd make a quick post here to let everyone know that I've been geared up and am now ready to get training!  I have signed up for my first tri, to be a sprint for charity north of Toronto mid-July.  I've got myself a bike, and have started running.  I went on a 36 km bike last weekend with a triathlete friend, and now am looking for local riding/training buddies!  If anyone in Montreal has a good place to ride, or wants to ride together, let me know!  I'm almost always available to go out for a good session!

Hope to train with you guys soon!

Pete

Hey Peter,

Welcome to BT.  I'm in the West end of the island. ( Beaconsfield)  Where are you located?

I try to plan rides with other buddies of mine but with everything happening around the house it is very last minute hit and miss and  therefore  I tend to ride alone, alot.  If you are local we can try the hit and miss.

Well, I live downtown, but I work out on the West Island.  It would be easy for me to do evening rides during the week.  Weekends wouldn't really be a problem, either, for me, as my bike fits easily into my car.  I don't even know where there are appropriate bike lanes or anything like that, so any help would be great!

I was actually looking at the  Beaconsfield Cycling club, and was going to join...  until I realized that they wouldn't let me join, because apparently they think that aerobars are deathtraps.  Oh well, what can ya do!  Where abouts do you normally ride?  I imagine that out on the West Island, there are more bike paths than around the downtown area...

I'll send this to you in a PM, as well.

there is a website called meetup.com and there is a group of cyclists that go out every so often.

Never been with them but it looks cool.

I called Beaconsfield as well and asked if I had to remove the aerobars even if I never drop into them. They said yes, I would have to remove them.

Thanks!  I had no idea about that website!  I'll take a look.

As for the aeros...  I would totally consider doing it, but I don't have a set of normal bull horns, only my full aero bars, so I guess I'm SOL for that.  Maybe some day...

Welcome to BT Peter!

BTer from the glamourous Verdun here.

Since you live downtown, you might want to go to the Gilles-Villeneuve race track and from there take the beautiful pike path to Ste-Catherine... it opens sometime this week.

Thanks for the info!  I was thinking of taking a look at the circuit, but I'm sorta new to the idea, and I don't know what the deal with it is.  How does it work?  Is it free?  Just show up and ride or what?  Also, (i'm sure I can find this info elsewhere, but here goes nothing) how do you get there?  I actually have no idea where it is, to be honest....

You just need to show up and ride. 100% free unless you park there and then ride. You can get there by both the Jacques-Cartier and De la Concorde bridges. Have fun!
