So, ran a 1/2 Mary this AM.
Didn't eat well last night (beer / burgers)
Didn't take Garmin
Didn't take HRM
Started out at my 10k pace
Didn't walk the aid stations

And P.R.'d by 5 minutes, as well as FINALLY breaking 2 hours!  Yay!

Beer and burgers, chuck the gadgets, don't stop...got it. Sounds good to me. Especially the night before meal. Beer for carbs, burger for protein.

Congrats!

Apart from the burgers and beer (which wasn't a huge mistake, but probably not ideal), I don't see any big problems here.  I'm not a huge fan of 'nothing new on race day', though when interpreted judiciously, I get it.

Yeah, struggling to see the issue here.

Pre-race?  Lots of latitude, as long as you're hydrated.

Electronics are optional, at best. Leaving 'em at home is as much good as harm.

Everyone starts out faster than they should. But goodstuff you could sustain to get the PR.

Throw in a cinnamon roll and a diet pepsi, I see olympic qualification.

lol.  Yeah, when I caught and passed the 9 min/mi pace guy around mile 5, I knew it was either going to be a really good or really bad day.
