Wonder what sins the Pat Robertson would say the Icelandic people have been committing?

It just doesn't seem like punishment enough.

The answer is, very likely, yes, it will affect the climate.  Since it's good ol' mother nature spitting out all the gases (not humans or their machines in this case), folks won't be so inclined to argue the unmistakable effects on the world.

Here's a nice article from the BBC with some interesting history:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8624791.stm
this one isn't nearly as bad as the one in 1783.

One of my friends facebook status reads as :

"Dear Iceland.
We asked you to send us Cash.
Yours Sincerly
The UK"

 "Dear England,
We're sending you a metaphor for what the banks did to your cash"
Yours,
Iceland!

I remember hearing at some point that volcanic eruptions can actually COOL the climate for a while - the dust reflects back solar rays that would otherwise reach the surface.  So perhaps this one will be the equivalent of a light tap on the brakes to climate change?  We can hope.

Yep, I've read the same thing.  Hopefully that's the case.  March, 2010 was officially the warmest March on record...and that dates back to 1880.
Poor Iceland...this is terrible stuff.  Thankfully it's not even close to the disaster in 1783.
I never realized before this that volcanic ash actually has pulverized glass in it.
Are there any triathlons being canceled in Europe right now?  I sure wouldn't want to race knowing I'm breathing pulverized glass into my lungs.

I have a completely naive question for everyone:

Have there been more natural disasters lately than normal, or it is just that the news coverage of natural disasters has increased?

I was in a conference in Phoenix last week and this weekend with about 50-60 Europeans.  All of them are now stuck in the US.  Felt bad for them as they were on the phones all day trying to figure out how to get home.

I suggested they all get together and buy a submarine.
