I hope you have a great race and have fun. You rock and are true triathlete...doing something that is hard but overcoming so much.

I'd be ticked off as well. In a recent Tri I raced with someone I train with. In training I'm much faster on the bike and I always need to stop and wait for her. I was surprised then pissed that she had the same bike time as I did within seconds. Not mad at her but frustrated....with me. I can only imagine throwing in family crap into would make me feel as well. I didn't even consider her really a competitor. I have always raced not knowing anyone so I surprised by my bad reaction.

I hope my brother does a Tri with me but he'd kick my butt...he runs every and is super fit. I think it would be fun...but I'm not competitive with him...he is out of my league...

I look forward to the race report tomorrow! Have fun...your family is pulling for you!!

I'm doing tri's now because of a friend of mine insipiring me...so of course I hope you both do well. However, it would be nice to give him words of encouragement as you pass him

***UPDATE***

Packet pick up was today.  Went with my BIL who looked at the swim course and said "Dude...that's no problem!!!"  Hopefully for his sake, he's right.

He has race number 549, I am number 550, and the transition area has designated bike racks by number...so, I will know at T1 and T2 is he is ahead or behind.

Looking forward to tomorrow

Rip up the course and have a great race!  BIL?  Well, I guess he'll have to fend for himself.

Note: Swim distance always doubles from where you're looking at it on the bank to when you're standing there in the water.

I will indeed, cadreamer, as long as you quit referring to me as old age.

My name is a reference to where I graduated college, Texas A&M.  The mascot is the Aggies, and once you graduate, you are called  a "former student", or an "Old Ag", rather than an alumnus

Okay, Okay, **wiping egg off face** I already admitted my lameness over on the "Your Screen Name" thread - but I'll do it again.

I am sincerely, deeply apologetic for EVER accidentally not-on-purpose putting an E in there.  I will never, ever, do it again.

Although, in my defense I didn't think it referred to your actual age, but when you thought you might have to actually give in to old age.  Hey, if you can make it to 92 before you feel old, that's good right?

Brandt, We are not that quick in the West, you will just have to humor us. Still, when you have a handle that contains old, 92, and a word one letter shy of age, we may be forgiven to jumping to conclusions. Ok, may be not ;-) Let us know how the drama unfolds with the BIL.....we are suckers for a juicy story up here...suspense is building with the weekend on our doorstep.

I think the 92 may be the year he graduated which means he hasn't even attended his 15th class reunion yet.  (been there, done that, a couple of years I'll be going to my 30th.)

**Post Race Update**

Official race report, complete with a couple funny anecdotes, will be up after results are in with splits, etc.  However, I finished in 1:46 and change....my BIL finished in 1:52 and change....enough said for now about that!! Props to him for surviving the swim, but all he can talk about now is how he thought he was going to drown and how stiff and sore he is...he he he.  I'm contemplating a short run this evening, just to keep everything feeling loose (just kidding, but I do feel GREAT).

It was a fun race, and BTers took Irving by storm.  RGRBill was 4th in Clydes, and got hardware.  Tiger Phil was 1st in Clydes in Oly.  JeepFleeb was 1st in his age group in Oly.  Congrats guys!!  If I missed anyone, let me know.  I missed the podium by 7 minutes.

Congrats!!! Sounds like it was a great race and good time. Sounds like your BIL struggled a bit. Probably a bit of an eye opener for him. It sounds like a huge accomplishment for you regardless of your time being better than his...but I bet it felt great to beat him!

Sounds like you had a great time - maybe you can get BIL hooked on this tri thing too - then you'd have someone to go to races with.

Good for him for finishing - cause from what you said so far, it sounded like he sure was underprepared.

Nice job, Brandt, and your BIL did walk the walk, so kudos to him, not bad for a guy who addresses you with 'dude'

Congrats to you! I know its a pet peeve of mine when you tell someone you are doing sprint tri's and there response is "oh I could do that" or " I could do the bike for sure". It does make me laugh inside

Woo hoo!!! You rawk!  I guess the "I swam a lot as a kid" training method doesn't work too well.  Great job!

Congratulations on the race. Great thread. I've been waiting all day for the results. In my family, when you beat someone at something, the winner gets to sing "I'm your boogie man" while doing an obscene dance as a form of taunting. Feel free to steal the custom if you want.

Actually, If someone tells me they could do one event I think that what they are saying is that they recognize that it does take some preparation. Maybe someone who says that really could do the bike section fairly easily but knows that they would be toast on they whole thing.

Congratulations on your race!! Well done on your achievement.  I'm looking forward to reading the race report!!

I'm also glad your BIL didn't injure himself during the race!  I was a bit concerned he might as he really sounded underprepared!

Well done!!

I'm late to this thread but great result and it just goes to show that its the preparation and determination that count. That result should drive you on through the next training cycle to your next great result!

Way to go OldAg92!
I figured your time would be good but the BIL must actually be a decent athlete as well. You guys should be training together. The desire to beat each other makes for a very powerful motivator. It could get to the point you have to NOT train together just to get some slow work in! Congratulations again.

Thanks, Fred.  Yes, he has been decently athletic for some time.  Plays soccer, etc.  But we live 700 miles apart, so training together is noot an option.

So you two can meet up for an occasional tri-shootout, if he decides to come gunning for you again. It will be interesting to see if he was turned off by the effort of an unprepared tri or if he gets the bug and keeps at it.

Good job on your end of the race too, Brandt. Congratulations!

Brandt, it was nice to meet you at the Tri and to hear that you did your part! Way to go. Keep at it and perhaps we'll meet again.

Your time is great, your effort even better and the determination and drive simply outstanding. Isn't this what the whole tri thing is about?! I'm glad your BIL finished (behind you), but finished 'cause we wouldn't want anything to spoil the day, but hey, great job.

Best post, most drama, yeah, keep the good work.
