Okay...with only three weeks to go, who is in and pumped for this race???

This race always marks the official start to my racing season...and I can't wait for it. I just love to hate it!!

I smiled weakly when I read the post. I'm not as pumped as usual. Good reminder that we do this for fun.

I'm racing the Black Bear sprint and today is my second day on my tri training program (12 week basic oly heart zone, starting somewhere in the middle of the plan), now that the Unite Half is behind me. I had forgotten what it was like to do evening strength, plus a swim, and then the next morning put in a run with this warm weather. Can anyone say, "heavy arms"?

I'm feeling much better now that I've had my nap A quick 45 minute bike ride should be a piece of cake . . . but I'll wait until the evening with less sun.

I'm also checking out campgrounds for the event weekend. Has anyone stayed at Jim Thorpe? My husband saw straight through the let's go camping while mommy does another tri, but the kids love sleeping in the tent and eating by the campfire.

wow... on this thread.

Hmmm..wonder if the day change to a Saturday dropped back registration this year? or the change from HIM to Oly. I am actually digging the Saturday race. I have to take a half day on Friday, but I feel like I can race and still have most of the weekend as a regular weekend.

Regardless...can't wait. Only three weeks to go.

Good luck to all!

Hey John,

Most of the race chatter has been on the PA page (since the race is in PA):

FYI...I'll be there both days

Yeah...I figured that. As a New Jerseyan...I dont even think I am allowed over there.

Hope we have great weather for it!

Larry: Any early indications of water temp? if so..how does it compare to last year around this time?
Temps seem, uh...cooler thus far and not looking much better from the 10-day. Not horrible, but probably no 68/69 like we had last year

It was 60 last week (4/27). My prediction is about 66-67.

Thanks.

I hope your prediction pans out! North of 65 would be nice. Or at least not unpleasant

Agreed, anything north of 65 doesn't sound too cold (although it's still pretty cold). Of course, if we get hit with a major cold spell I'll simply revise my prediction.

If memory serves me right (red flag right there), that lake heats up pretty quickly with a lot of sun. I think I remember in 2008 where it heated up like 5 degrees in a week just with good sunny days, and not necessarily HOT days.

That being said, the 10 day forecast sucks with a mix of cloudy days and sunny days, colder nights, and rain in the outer days. Not good factors there. Given that...PLEASE let it stay north of 60!

Revising this yet Larry? Ugggh. Hoping next week warms us up a bit.

65 felt cold on the forehead and feet, fine everywhere else. I hope everyone enjoyed the race as much as I did. Was anyone surprised by their swim pace? I didn't think I was going that fast and I've taken into account the wetsuit, but my linmark swim pace is fast as if I were swimming with a current.  I also opted for my tri bike/aero bars for the first time. The good news is I wasn't any slower than 2008 when I did the sprint with the 17 mile ride, but I wasn't any faster. I guess not enough straight aways to make a difference.

Agreed...the 65 degrees was cold. I couldnt feel my feet by the end of it.

I was also very happy with my swim time. I felt like I was going fast during the race (pacing and effort wise) and I ended up with a PR for the swim-split. The bike killed me as always. I was SLOWER than last year with the 17.7 mile ride. I dont know if the the swim took too much out of me (doubtful) or if it was the new layout (that hill right after the turn on station was a killer after 3.8 miles of rollers), or if I should have been doing more hill repeats (possible). Don't know. But I was not happy with my bike leg.

I somehow put together a great run leg with a big improvement on my run pace over last year (so I dont think it was a conditioning thing on the bike...still scraching my head on that one). Solid race for me, and I had a great time as always.

The Oly had to be freezing on Sunday.
