Anyone doing this?  I'm signed up for the sprint, first race of the season for me.  I'm getting pretty pumped, it's only 2 1/2 weeks away!  Plus I have contacts now, so I won't be stumbling around blindly before the race, and I might actually be able to see buoys sort of clearly when swimming.

Not sure, when and where.  I am scheduled for Kansas HIM on June 6th and would like to get a short race in prior to make some last minute adjustments.

It's May 23 in Boone, IA...close to Ames.  Looks like mostly positive reviews on here, haven't personally done this one in the past though...

I have the CB Half Marathon that day, so that is out.....that sucks, I was really wanting to get in a short race before my HIM.

What Ironman are you doing??

I'm doing the new rev3 ironman at Cedar Point in Ohio.  I'm originally from near Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, so it's close enough for family to make the trip up for the day...

I heard alot of good things about that race.  I am planning Kansas and Pigman this year, then Ironman Wisconsin next year.

What kind of engineer are you??  I am an industrial engineer for a food manufacturing plant down in SW Iowa.....are you working for Deere??

Yeah, I'm a mechanical engineer, and I do work for Deere.  I work on engine controls and calibration.  Good stuff, I'm hoping to get into Ironman Wisconsin myself next year, and might do Pigman HIM as a tune up this August.  I'm really looking forward to the rev3 race, I've heard nothing but good things about their other races.

I saw in your blog that you ride a P2, I also ride a P2...mine is '09 DA and I absolutely love it.  I think my wife and I are going to volunteer at IMWI this year to get a taste of the race course.

Not sure but a friend of mine,  Derek Nelson is an ME that works at Deere, not sure if you know him.  Good luck with your training....IM training seems so much more than what I am doing right now!!!

Yeah I love my P2!  Great bike!  Actually the first few weeks of the ironman plan I've been using have been less volume than a half ironman plan I was using to build base.  But yeah I'm sure it will only go up from here.  Good luck to you as well!

I'm in!  After doing Escape from Alcatraz last weekend I'm ready for a nice flat, fast course.

This was a fun, well organized race last year.

I did this race last year, it was really well done and a very nice flat course!

One tip I would give is to do the run out before the race.  The first quarter mile is on a trail and leads towards the road but could be confusing if you aren't prepared to do that.

I was trying to find another tri, but that one is on my daughter's graduation weekend, so that is not a possibility for me.  Good luck and have fun!!!

So do you take cash or check to allow me to shortcut the course for the overall victory?

Seriously though, anyone staying in or near Ames for this race interested in grabbing some dinner the night before?  I will be staying in the lovely Microtel...at least it's cheap...
