Who died and you made you Renee?! Seriously, go look at Gwozdzilla's log and tell me if you think that's a lame excuse. She's really ill. :-P

Thanks Renee:

So, making sure I have read this right from your comments about the scoring - does that mean that we are NOT doing the average of percentages like in Cavu9's original post and my re-statement of them, except for as a tiebreaker if the teams have them same NUMBER of people at goal in all 3 sports?

I'm really not beating a dead horse I promise, I just have serious mommy/perimenopausal brain and need things to be really simple and straightforward for them to stick in my mind. I will let my teammates know of the new guidelines and want to be clear.

One other thing, in light of these rules, will we have a grace period to modify goals since they don't count if we don't make 100%? I set a pretty ambitious running goal in order to challenge myself, but if my team is penalized for it because I only get 90% of it, that doesn't seem fair. When I set the goal, I just thought we were trying for highest percentage, not all or nothing - I'm thinking some other people may have done that also.

Thanks!

Anna, no worries about asking Qs. This is a new scoring system and you didn't participate in the other challenges to know what factors would affect the standings.

In threads regarding new challenges, everyone, without exception it seemed, said that they did not want to use an aggregrate scoring system. They wanted it to be a "meet your goal" challenge, not a blowout your goal challenge.

A little background: with the swim, bike and run challenges, we used an aggregrate scoring system. The % of goal attainment for the entire team was averaged; the team with the highest average won. Some people decided they didn't like that scoring system because your entire team could meet their goal and STILL lose if the other team exceeded their goals. Specifically with the bike challenge, even though more women met their goal than men, the men's team won because the scoring was based upon aggregrate goal attainment (vs # of people who met their goal).

With this new challenge (first all-3-sports challenge), it was decided that we would score based upon who made their goal. Second to that, overall % of goal attainment (not including anything over 100% in any given sport).

I know it's confusing, that's why I posted scenarios for people to do the math themselves so that they could see how this could potentially play out. You know, squawk now or forever hold your peace.

As for changing goals now, I would say that's a no go.

Thanks Renee - that is helpful, and my bad for not knowing/reading the history of past challenges or making sure of the exact rules before I set my goals. I was going by the chit chat on the PowWow thread and somehow missed out ....

As for my stupidly set running goal, I'll just eat it if I don't make it this time and hopefully not mess up our team too badly and will be invited back someday if there is another. Heck, maybe they'll luck out and I'll get injured and be dropped :-p Course that wouldn't be too lucky for me now...

Would someone friggin make the rules and clearly state them...this BS is getting ridiculus....just let us know how we are playing the contest.  I thought it was settled a few days into the event, but it seems mid-month we have no set scoring system.  Now I know why I stayed out of the other challenges!  Better yet, just tell me where to send my $25....it is a donation to a good cause no matter win or lose, so this challenge thing has lost my interest.  I will make my goals for myself and move on happily.

My but you are all being so agreeable!

This was what was proposed:

- Each person gets a percentage completion for each discipline with a max of 100% in each.
- Those 3 percentages then are averaged for that person for an individual score.
- The Team score is then achieved by averaging the individual scores/percentage of all teammates.

My undestanding was that this is what we agreed to and there were confirmations from Husky, Anna, Kim, Mekarul, jkbostic, and myself , and Renee......so why are we changing it now???

Laney, don't get your knickers in a knot. It will be worked out to everyone's satisfaction. There was much discussion about what people wanted to measure; how to calculate that measurement is another matter.

Chill and train hard. Or I'll have to spank ya.

Hope it works out the best, but I am out.  I have asked Brett to captain our team.  But I dod recommend that you get an answer soon to how the calculations are to be done.  I got a couple of PMs from people in support of my statements above.  They feel as I do that the rules are being changed mid-stream to benefit another team.  Good-luck!

Lane... you cannot be serious. No one is changing rules. And... how dare you say I'm favoring anyone?! That's not sportsmanlike at all! You owe me an apology for that. Public or PM, I don't care, just apologize.

Do you drop out of your tri's when things get sticky? Shame shame shame! You cannot dropout, I won't let you! See my guns (avatar)??? Fear the guns, Lane!

I will go back and read through every post about WHAT you all wanted measured and HOW you suggested it be measured. Most of my posts here are dashed off; I will take the 36 hours necessary to read through the various threads to make sure that this is done fairly and equitably

I will not apologize for what I believe in!  I believe the rules were agreed upon.  If people didn't agree with the rules, but refused to post on this thread like you suggested then that is their fault.  From what I can read here, most agreed with my suggestion....and it has nothing to do with my suggestion or me being right, it is that the majority agreed to those rules, you even commented on how we all were agreeing....and nothing else was said about any different rules until last weeks update that you posted saying something about a different scoring system.

You believe the rules are being changed TO BENEFIT ANOTHER TEAM. That is an insult to my integrity and honesty. Maybe I should quit, too! Boohooo! You owe me an apology. You can complain that the scoring is not what you understood it to be but you do not get to disparage me in the process. Come on, apologize and we can kiss and make up. Waiting...

As I said, I will take the time to laboriously go through all the posts and make sure the scoring system accurately reflects what was posted and agreed upon. That's what I thought I had already done.

And if you don't apologize for accusing me of favoring another team, we can't be friends anymore. Or maybe, since you quit as captain, you can have my job.

You guys! Shake hands and relax. Renee made a mistake and posted a different scoring system(or maybe she didn't, I don't know, not paying that close of attention!). It's hard to keep up with this much stuff and keep it all straight. There is no conspiracy!!!

I'd just like to remind everyone that we're doing this for FUN, to challenge ourselves. It's not all so serious and there will be no nuclear wars if we don't all agree or things get a little screwed up. So smile, relax, train hard and get ready to lose to TEAM HOSS!!!!!

Let me explain my words.....

Do I think the rules changed?   Yes.  Whether intentional or not.

Do I think you did it to favor another team?  No.  But do I think the rules changed were by recommendation of someone else, yes!  And do I think they will benefit someone else, yes!  But did you do it to provide that team with an advantage...NO!

This is what I take exception to, Lane. "... to benefit another team." That is not okay for you to say about me.

For the record, NO ONE said anything to me about the scoring. Not one soul. I was looking at how the calculations did not reflect what you guys said you wanted it to reflect (for reasons I clearly spelled out above). I made adjustments based upon what I understood everyone wanted the challenge to be based upon.

If anyone wants, I will gladly turn this over to someone else with no whining or hard feelings on my part. Just say the word and I'm out.

Now chill out. Here's how it's done...

Oh, and looky, Lane. There's room for you on that hammock. :p

Oh man - I really did hope to stay out of the fray, but I feel that I've got to remind you, Renee, that just a few posts up this thread I was also questioning what seemed to me to be a change in the rules from the ones Cavu9 posted way back when, and with which I agreed and made my goals.

I also agree that this is all fun - and I think all we'd like to see is that the target doesn't keep shifting - I mean, we're already half way thru the month!

I can't say anything about what was posted in past challenges, in talks leading up to this challenge, or whatever because I am new here. I only go by what was posted on the PowWow thread, and the fact that in the main challenge thread, it was stated that this was the place for captains to hash out rules.

And Lane - take care of that hamstring, mine hurts just thinking about it!

Annabananamc, you made your point above and I thought I very clearly explained what was going on. I'm not sure why you feel the need to remind me that you questioned it, but thanks for weighing in. Again.

Maybe some of you aren't comfortable with the idea of me going back to read ALL the posts relative to this... and maybe you don't have the patience to allow me to do that at my leisure (like, not this very moment). What can I say? Be patient. This is not my first priority in life. My boss just told me that if I bill a certain amount of placement fees between now and 12/31/05 he will reward me with a Cervelo P3 Carbon bike. Guess where my attention quickly switched to?

The easy thing for me to do is just average everyone's goals and have done with it.  The hard (time-consuming) thing to do is go back and carefully read everyone's input and continue to carefully articulate my thought-process. I'm starting to lean towards doing the easy thing rather than what I believe is the right thing.

Great post, Max! Much more eloquently said what I was trying to get at. In a few months, no one will remember the score, much less how the scoring was done, but we'll all have new, closer BT friends. Let's not ruin something fun.

Hey Renee -

I just weighed in again because you said nobody had said anything to you about the scoring. I just didn't want to be 'nobody' - maybe I misunderstood your reference, no big deal.

I like the hammock - I can see mine from my desk! Unfortunately my DS has a friend over and two 3.5yr olds are LOUD and BUSY - I'm hiding out here ignoring the crashes....

What a cool thing your boss said - does he do tri's too? Man, I wouldn't read another post until the end of the year if I were you - LOL. Don't sweat the re-read on my part - I vote for simple. My team is all up to date and raring to go - couple of us went out and squeezed in extra workouts yesterday just to get the 3x50% even, and that ain't bad news on any day!

Now back to the hammock and I'll bring the pitcher of margarita's!
