.... to introduce myself.

Hello - I'm Steve, and live just north of Dayton.  I'm 50 and 6'2", and weigh 213 (and dropping).  So a Clyde by weight, but I race in AG category.  I was primarily a runner until 2005 when I did my first sprint Duo on a Hybrid bike.  I quickly took to the multisport races, and did my next duo on my new road bike that year.  Last year I really realized I needed to improve my biking speed / times, and worked hard at that last year, and particularily this year.  I upgraded my bike again, and my first 2 Duo's this year I see the improved bike times of at least 2 mph.

I decided last year I'd either Tri a Tri, or move up to Oly distance Duo's.  Since I haven't swam since last Sept., I think the Oly is my best option.

I'm basically kinda nervous, and have delayed signing up for Deer Creek Oly, not sure why because I believe my conditioning is there, and I've taken great steps(through stretching) to nearly eliminate the achilles injury I suffered off and on for most of last year.

Sorry for the length of this post, but I hope to contribute to this forum, and know I'll be absorbing a lot from everyone's comments and experience.

I welcome any tips or advice anyone has when moving up to the Oly distance, like pacing, nutrition, and anything else you can offer to make me feel more comfortable and pull the trigger on registering for Deer Creek Oly Duo.

Steve

Welcome to BT

DieuEtMonDroit (Tom) might be able to lend some assistance. He seems to be one of the few Du-athletes that use the site regularly.

Olympics generally start to require some planning on pacing and hydration/fueling as you are on course for nearly or over 2 hours. Still short enough to push pretty hard, but long enough you can't lay it all out on the bike.

Welcome!
I hope you registered by now ... the race is in a few days!
There will be several of us there from this forum.

We'll be at the race site in a big white motorhome with a big black dog tied outside.

My husband will be the one in a pink sparkly speedo.

Thanks Alice, just registered this morning.  I wasn't feeling the greatest the week before the Ohio Challenge, kinda weak, don't know why - so was just waiting to make sure I'm back to normal.  I have been training for the distances and race(first Oly), just held off on registration.  Deciding on a bike pace may be interesting.

I've kinda followed the pink Speedo thread, I hope they've sewn some padding or comfortable liners in there.... LOL.  There will have to be a new term when a guy in a pink speedo passes you in a race...

I'll be down Sat. for packet pickup, and a possible workout, so may see you guys there.

Thanks for the welcome DLaw, I'm in Huber Heights.  I played a lot of B-Ball in Vandalia at Morton(the pit), the H.S. and other Vandalia schools back in the day.
