I'd be more worried about keeping your head in both wedding prep and in training than about the physical challenges. If you think you can stay focused on both then go for it.

I was marathon training while planning my own wedding (I was the bride) & actually had an 18 mile run scheduled for my WEDDING DAY. It rained, though, & I only got 12 in. The training kept sane & kept me from obsessing over little details about the wedding. I think you should do your race; I'm sure you'll be fine physically & you won't be starting your marriage looking for 'another' race since you gave yours up to deal with flowers & such.

Gritty - 2010-06-17 11:54 AM I say do it unless your Fiancé is really really against it.  If she is, then start off the marriage right and cave in in fact, don't get married.

Fixed that.  Seriously, a marriage is never about caving in to someone's orders.  That goes for being male or female.

Agreed, it's not about orders.  But why pick a HIM the week before your wedding when you can pick one a month before or after.  It's Texas, there are LOTS of opportunities to race.

Not only should you do the race, but you should wear your finisher's medal to the wedding ceremony.

More importantly, watch the emasculated DB's that actually agree to marry these freaks.

Exactly and again if she's shouldering most of the planning (whether intentionally or not) you should be there for her and be aware if your training is placing extra stress on her ...  will she be having to plan around your long rides and runs?  what is she going to have to give up to be able to watch you do your race one week before the wedding?

Again, it would be really different if she were into tris ... because as you've seen some of us are perfectly okay with this ... but I know of many others not into endurance sport who would not be!

Unfortunatly I think I know how this is going to end... besides i would have to train around things like bacehlor parties etc...  I may end up  just doing a couple of Olympics instead and do a HIM later in the year.  She's never even seen a triathlon and I havent raced one this year since i have been focusing on my running...  maybe if she knew more about them and what all went on I would be ok, but she doesnt...

Like many have said there are many more to do later in the year... I would love to do one earlier but dont feel like traveling to Singapore, Thailand etc....

But i have to admit both of us have been entertained by the responses.... let me tell you how funny she thought i was when i said we could just change the date of the wedding....
