Synon - 2010-07-12 6:15 PM I guess I split them up evenly, 1-33% FOP, 34-66% MOP and 67-100% BOP
I try and preface which group I'm talking about... overall... males... age group... etc.

So you might be at the BOMOFOP

This is how I do it too.  It sets well with the OCD part of my brain that needs things to be in nice, neat, equally divided boxes.

furiousferret - 2010-07-13 6:46 AM Front of the pack is where you hardly see anyone on the course, and hope not to get lost.

Middle of the pack is when you see people all around you.

Back of the pack is where you see alot of people in front of you but not alot behind you.  You also hope that the scorekeepers haven't left yet.

Bwah ha HA HA HA ... agreed.

You could also, for example, be a FOP swimmer but BOP runner.

As for the FOFOPs and BOMOPs and BOBOBOPs ...  I say BOBOPADOWOP.

FWIW (nothing), I think you could legitimately call yourself FOP.

The couple of adventure races I did, our team was so far back that our friends/family had to literally save us some of the food before the caterers left.

MOP is of course a mathematical calculation determined to be 3x the standard deviation +/- the median time.

;-P

It's funny because I once volunteered for a Tri for the Cure race that my wife was racing which had something like 2,000 participants. You could quite literally see the Bell curve in action. I was stationed on the bike course, and I would see the lead group, which really wasn't a group but a few individual racers riding fancy bikes super fast. The numbers would increase to groups of maybe three, then five, and so on, until I saw a massive wave of humanity on bikes. Then the reverse happened and the groups tapered down to one little old lady riding a bike with a basket on the handlebars (no kidding). Being the geeky sort, I found this quite fascinating.
