Grazer - 2010-07-19 4:19 PM I'm signed up for the Oly. Hoping for a significant improvement over last year. This will be my first "repeat" race  from last season, so it will be a good measure of improvement I think. Although, I hope I'm fully recovered from the Muncie long course last week. My legs are still pretty tired from it.

I would like to met up with some fellow BT'ers. I'll be wearing a white TYR sleeveless Jersey. Riding a Fuji Aloha.

Reassuring to hear I'm not the only one still feeling Municie (my 1st HIM)

I'm probably just about fully recovered from the Endurathon LC DU...it was rough! We'll see how the DU @ Tri Indy goes...my training has fallen off a bit since the Endurathon.

I didn't see a registration close date but they did sell out last year according to their site.

They did sell out last year, late the week before the race.

I don't know what the visibility will be but its likely it won't be real good.

You'd be surprised, the water visibility is close to that of a pool.

I rode the bike course yesterday. If you've noticed on the TuxBro site it has changed from last year because of construction. Next year it will be a lot smoother when the closed section is reopened. This year the bike course is a little short and still rough. Be careful on Lafayette and 30th not to hit any holes or jump any bumps! Train Tracks about 2-3 miles in are still pretty rough.

With that said...I'm still lookin forward to the race. The canal swim is fun to be something different and the run is a nice loop. I'll be wearing the green top in my little picture on here and riding a silver TTX with SRAM wheels.

Last year the water was about like a typical lake.  The algae and growth on the bottom gets pretty well stirred up by the swimmers so plan on doing plenty of spotting.  Or like last year in my case, getting kicked in the face several times.  It was my first attempt at swimming in a group so I tried starting in the back.  Problem was I kept catching up and running into feet that I could not see until they gave me a good shot in the head.

Not sure what I will be wearing but I am the short guy with binary code tattoo on one arm and a Louisville cardinals tattoo on the other.  I am staying at the Marriot on the Canal which looks pretty nice and I hope to sneak a swim in the day before in the canal.

I think the Canal is closed to swimming outside this event.

Yep, I just got an envelope with a couple pre-race papers.  You can get the same thing on tuxbro's website, and they posted the approximate swim start times.  It appears it will be a time-trial start instead of a wave start.

im trying really hard not to be mean to the people that do lie and start way up front. my buddy keeps telling me the nature of triathlon is to swim over the top of people in your way but i dont want to cuz if someone swam over me id be pissed and would probably do something stupid. the times for the most part dont really matter after the first 500m or so anyway most of the slower swimmers are behind you and you get into your rythym......

besides im #162 and only start 14 minutes in front of you.....

Bib #321 with a swim start of 7:50.  I put myself down as an average swimmer for the July Eagle Creek Tri run by Tuxbro and ended up seeded at the back of the pack of that one too.  I must have passed 50 swimmers in the first 250 meters.  I'm not sure why they think that a time trial start in the canal is going to be any less congested than the time trial start at Eagle Creek.  I think they need to change their "rate yourself as a swimmer" system if they want to eliminate congestion.  How many people want to rate themselves as "below average"?  I'm guessing not very many.

Anyhow...If anyone wants to say hi, I'm riding a White QR Seduza with yellow bar tape and I'll be wearing a red and black Saucony tri suit.

Good luck to everyone racing!  Go fast and have fun!

I think I'm going to suggest they put your 400 time down, I put above average swimmer and I'm starting 221st.  The guy starting right behind me did it last year and swam 32+ min., I should swim this in about 26-28, I'm not sure what they are thinking when they lie.  I average about 1:35-1:40 per 100 for that distance, but don't consider that swimming like a fish.

I was only kidding about fibbing.  I would rather be back in the back passing than in the front getting passed and in the way.  Although last year they were wave starts and I started at the back of my wave to allow the faster ones to get out in front.  Turned out I was one of the faster ones, got kicked in the face a couple of times right off the bat and never did get in any sort of groove.

Since I am new at this someone please tell me what 'average' is for this distance.  I am figuring on finishing between 28-30 minutes...is this average?

looking at last year's race results, 28 minutes would put you around 110th and 30 minutes would put you around 170th, this is out of 439.  So 28 is definitly above average.

I'm doing the sprint, so my number is 957.  I put myself down as average.  Looks like I'm kind of on the back of that group.  Hopefully the time trial will alleviate any congestion.  This morning was cool. If tomorrow is going to be like today, looks like a nice race minus the rain.

Good luck to everyone!!!
