I did not turn the other cheek.

Mile 40 out 50 mile training ride, riding far to the right, plenty of room to go around me.
60's vintage primered pickup pulls up right behind me and lays on the horn.

Yup, I flipped him off when he passed.

It's such an instinctual reaction.  "You were just a jerk, so I'm going to be a jerk back."

What is my penance?

Um..how about you just pamper yourself a little.  Maybe put a little extra milk in your morning cereal.  That should about cover it.

I would have turned the other cheek...that way they would have gotten the Full Moon!  Just make sure you don't have any team gear on if you belong to a team...

You mean to tell me that I am not supposed to do that?  Uh...oh; I may be in trouble then.

Is it also bad to yell "How about NOT trying to run me off the F.....G road!" when they slow down and try to yell at you through the passenger window?

Someday I will probably get myself into trouble...

Sometimes I think to myself..   off folks in 2000 lb vehicles isn't smart.. and in that situation being on a bicycle is like bringing a stick to a shotgun fight.

I don't disagree with what you did, I don't condemn you but just think about it.  I try to smile and wave when I get honked at.  I'm not that cheery of a person but I really don't want some road rage goober actually thinking about hitting me

This^^^^

TOTALLY understand where you are coming from getting mad at these morons but it is important to realize that you are on a 15-20 pound bike and they are in a 2000+ pound vehicle: You will NOT win a confrontation with those odds.

I have been literally run off the road twice in the last 24 years of riding by trucks. Not worth angering them any further in my opinion. I, also, wave and smile and try to confuse them in that way!

If this is a bad thing, then you were not the only sinner out there this weekend!  I had multiple run-ins with drivers who though it would be funny to try to knock me from my bike on Saturday.  My kids would have made me wash my mouth out with soap if they had heard the last string of obsenities coming out of my mouth.  Embarassed

I realized I had to stop flipping people off when I became a teacher. It would be embarrassing to get reacquainted at parent-teacher conferences. I like the smile, wave, and confuse course of action when I am quick enough to think about it. I try to act like I'm surprised to see a good friend.

Hahaha!  Love it.  Actually, I was driving and cut off another car.  I turned to look at him expecting to see his finger and angry face.  Instead he gave me the big smile and a wave.  I have to say it made me feel like s**t.  That being said, I would have probably given the driver behind you the bird too.  So hard to resist that temptation to sin.

I haven't quite mastered the smile and wave yet. I've made it passed the single finger salute (I'm still occasionally tempted but that is usually when I'm in the car) and am working on controlling the anger. After a few seconds I am to the point that I could smile and wave but by then they are already gone.

Flip the bird all the time. I guess not on the bike yet, but definitely when running. Swear a lot too when people try to run me over. I guess I'm pretty cranky when I run... :-)

No problem.  The next time this happens and you lose your cool, just be sure to add, "...and if you pull out in front of me again, my friends at ST are gonna kick your as!!"

When people drive past band practice and shout something out the window, we cannot usually tell what they say, but over the microphone I usually say "And you have a lovely day too."  The kids just laugh it off.  That way, the hoodlems don't get the last word and really, if it turns out to be someone "important", I wished them a lovely day.

Make complete stops at all stop signs for one day and you will be forgiven.

+2

Every time this happens I grit my teeth & ride on with no reaction.

Never wrestle with pigs in the mud.  You just get dirty & the pigs enjoy it.

IDK my mossberg 930 has a carry strap but I'm pretty sure the recoil would knock me right off my bike... :/

x2.

I get so annoyed when people do dumb stuff on the road, but they are couple ton vehicle and I'm either just on my bike or running. Also, you never know when someone in a car is carrying a gun. It's just not worth it.

I had a kid in the city spit on me once. I was FURIOUS... but -- it's Baltimore city, and it's not weird if a 12 year old is packing heat. I moved on and just fumed about it internally.

Be safe out there everyone !!
