Not a fan of swimming blind.
I've been swimming in a pair of regular speedo (prescription) goggles, but I'm MORE than open to suggestions (especially since the pair I currently have is past its prime!)

Anything work in particular?

& what's your preference: clear or tinted lenses?

much appreciated! Smile

I found a set of TYR presription swimming goggles for $17 on sale as sportsbasement in San Jose I think? Or santa clara. Most races nearby have a 10% off coupon too. I had my doubts, but they save me in T1...I just keep them on and then I can find my bike!

To give you an idea of how my eyes are, I cannot read past the 2 or 3rd line of an eye exam without my glasses.

As for tinted/clear, I cannot say, but mine are clear and I am never blinded by water or sighting. I would be afraid to only have tinted ones because the ocean/lakes tend to be dark anyway.

I bought a pair of Aquagoggles a few months ago and have been very happy with them.  You can get a different correction in each lens if your eyes are different.

I've got three or four different pairs, all different models, with diopter correction.  They all work and fit about the same.  One is clear for swimming at the indoor pool at my gym, the rest are tinted for swimming outside.  I really dislike glare and bright sun, even for when I am just catching the glimpse when I turn my head to breath duing OWS.  But I find my cheapest pair just as good as my most expensive.

I have aquasphere Eagle goggles. I tried the goggles first to see if they leaked and then bought lenses later. They were about $60 all in but they are comfortable for me and don't leak. I have terrible problems finding goggles that fit my fast. I suggust going to a store and trying them before you buy a pair. Make sure they fit right for you.

Do they really work?  I'm trying to get my wife to swim more and since her eyesight is terrible, this seemed like a great step to make her more comfortable.

i'm a total convert. and as someone said early, MAJOR lifesaver heading into transition

and just for my general mindset heading into the water, i find it more comforting/reassuring when i can really see my surroundings.
(i can't imagine swimming in open water blind.... that freaks me out a bit!)

worth a shot. even in the pool they're great-- and they're a great stocking stuffer for holidays too
Wink
(but i tend to save them for open water)

Last year I got back into the pool after a 30-year absencec.  I was wondering what I was going to do about seeing (eyesight is 20/200 without correction).  Someone suggested (BT forum) Speedo Opticals ($25) so I got a pair - best investment for me!

I really enjoy swimming now (also use Total Immersion).  My eyes are -10.0 and it goes to -8.0 but a HUGE improvement.  I can actually see the edge of the pool.  I highly recommend them.  I think Speedo is having a sale right now.

I have the TYR tinted optical goggles for $20. Best tri investment I ever made. Before, I could never locate the buoys on the swim. Now I can spot a dime on the bottom of the deep end of the pool.

Rarely leak. Rarely fog.

My prescription isn't all that strong but it's enough that I have trouble seeing buoys or other targets.  With the prescription goggles, I have no trouble.  It's not as 100% sharp as wearing my glasses but definitely does the job.

I'm pretty darned blind without my glasses (or contacts) and I use the Speedo Vanquisher's.  I can get them off the shelf at my local swim shop, which stocks them in a variety of different strengths.  They work great.  I've never compared with other perscriptions goggles, but I use the Vanquisher's for my non-perscription set, and didn't see the need to complicate the decisions.  They're comfortable, keep the water out and allow me to see about as good as my regular glasses.

I also have the Speedo Vanquishers.  I purchased them online for $15 I think from swimoutlet.
I have both tinted and clear and they work just fine. Of course different models/brands fit people differently but for $15-$20 it could be worth a shot.  Of course they are not my exact prescription for this price but they are pretty darn close and they allow me to see while swimming and to find things in T1.

Does anyone know where to get prescription googles with +2.0?  I got my last pair from AC Lens online, but now they only seem to go to +1.0.  All the other sites I have checked are only negative numbers.  I liked the ones I had and wanted to get a second set, but just can't find what I need.  Maybe I will just have to make the leap to progressibe contact lenses.  I have worn them in the pool and they are great, but I am not sure I will like them on the bike since the distance is somewhat blurry.
