I'm doing the oly next week (I'll be the old fat slow guy in the back).  Anyone interested in meeting up on Saturday or after the race on Sunday to put some names with avatars?

I'll be there around 2:30 on Saturday.  I was going to stick around for the athlete talk at 3:00.  I'll be going slow as well...back (past 3 weeks) and knee (couple months) have hampered my workouts.  I haven't run more than 2.25 miles in a couple months (which should make for a looong 6.2!), though I have been able to swim and bike.  I'll probably be around 11 minute miles on the run and hopefully finish before the awards ceremony!  My ultimate goal is to not walk any of the 6.2...but do plan on running 2, walking a bit, running 2, walking a bit, running to finish (though I haven't had any knee pain the past 3 runs!).

I'm in for the Olympic distance. I won't be there on Saturday (someone else is picking my packet up for me), but will post my bib # when I know it.

ETA: assuming the wave schedule is the same as last year, I'll be in the second to last wave....

I'm volunteering this year, still recovering from IMLP. I'll be in a green kayak, hopefully I won't see any of you during the race.

sure no problem...I'll throw you the toe rope to make it easier Laughing . Seriously, in case you didn't know, if you need to you can hold on to any kayak as long as you don't make forward progress. You can rest, catch your breathe, fix your gogggles, etc... The folks in the kayak are not allowed to stop you from continuing if you grab a hold. They will just note your number to make sure you do make it out.

It's a nice course - there is a steep uphill leaving the parking lot (which becomes a fast downhill coming back in), but the main course is rolling hills, closed road.  You go three miles to the right, then about 6 back, and then three looping to where you started.  For the oly, repeat.

I do a lot of my training rides by mentally breaking them down into those same 3 miles - ("OK, now I would be heading up to the second turn around...")

If nanners gets a tow rope for the swim, can I use a scooter for the run?  Or could someone push me in a wheelbarrow? I'll carry some water and energy bars to keep feeding you...

Should we ask if we could get BT written near our numbers Laughing?  Or we could hang balloons near our bikes and write BT on them for easy ID!  Maybe I'll get it tattooed to my forehead....no, saving a middle finger for there...though I do have a lot of forehead since my hair jumped off and also slid down my back...

I have not done the race before, but I know the course There is a steep hill righ out of the marina  (and I chose to crash on it last week). The rest of the hills are just loooong. It's actually not bad.  There are hills that are much worse on other sides of the lake, but luckily we do not need to go there

I'm doing the sprint distance and I will be at the packet pickup on Saturday. This is my first "real" sprint. I did SheRox last year, but it ended up being a duathlon. Thus I have never done and OWS in my life and I AM SCARED

BTW - has anybody received their athlete note email yet? I have not.

No - and the Athlete's Note has not been updated yet.  But as I recall, last year it was the middle of the week before they posted the bib numbers.

I like the idea someone had of having BT written above the age on our calves - makes us easier to spot.

I spent an hour this morning trying to find out what the temperature is - did not see anywhere. I do not even have a wetsuit. Hope it's going to be warm enough.

I live about half an hour north, in Allentown.  Water temp last weekend was 83 (!).  Last few nights have been cool, though, so I'm sure that will drop.  I did an open water swim in Lake Nox last month, water temp was 78, and it felt warm.  I'm doing a swim leg of an olympic relay this time around.

I also did the OWS at Lake Nox last month and it was warm so don't worry about the temp of the water.  I've biked the course a few times and the hill out of the marina is tough and there is a hill after the second turn around that I don't like (I'm new to biking hills so I may not be the best judge).  I love the scooter idea for the run!!!

According to this website:
http://www.fishingnotes.com/lakeinfo.php?id=26670

The current estimated temp is 72.  Not sure how accurate that is, but it looks like that might mean wetsuits...

I'm coming from up north to do my first race in PA (moving from Boston to NYC)
I will be solidly in the back finishing the run cause I have run maybe 9 miles in the last month ...having some real impact-issues with my knees

This is also the first time I will be "spectated"  - yikes!   My BF and his daughter (7yrs) are coming.  Any advice on what a 7yr old might find entertaining besides standing around waiting for me to finish?  (she has short attention span)   Are there kids activities/pool/etc that day?

There is a swimming pool in the park, and boat rentals, hiking trails, etc... maybe she would enjoy one of those?? Here's a link to the park web-site: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/nockamixon.aspx

That's the problem I've been having for a couple months.  I've been reading about running barefoot and also Vibram Five Finger shoes (not sure if I'll try either of those) but I am walking around barefoot more to help build foot muscles, tendons and running around the yard barefoot as well.  This was an interesting video to watch on barefoot running.  I watched his strike intently and try to copy it when I run.  I've been out a few times the past week with no pain that I did not have before the run started.  I'm not saying his strike is what helped it may have also been the time off from running significant amounts as well.  But, it is different from how I was running.
