Yep, I am an Ironman. Lah dee dah, bfd (Kenny Powers style).

I wanted to see if I could pass the Redskins conditioning test for Albert Haynesworth. Does this have anything to do with my IM training this year? Not really.

The test: 300 yard shuttle run via 6- 25 yard out and backs. Must pass in 71 seconds. Then a 3:30 break, then pass the same test in under 73 seconds.

I raced it in a 00:60 then 00:62. Not fast, but it is good to know I can beat Haynesworth and even Mike Golic, who just passed it.

What will this mean for you?
1. Can you beat some donkey in the last 300 yards of the run so you place a step higher?
2. Are you faster than a $21M man?
3. Do you think you are in super shape?
4. If you decide to take the test, and do fail, will you care?

On you next track workout, begin with this test. I hope you pass. I really thought I could run each in the 50s, but I am not a sprinter.

I'm no Haynesworth supporter, but could you pass it carrying a 170 pound bag?  (At least that's what I'd have to carry to equal his 350 pounds, which is a very generous weight estimate - I'd peg him closer to 375 or more).  Just saying.

Thats not a fair comparison. His muscles are also much larger than the average person. That test is across the board for the team, kicker to DT. He should pass. He's a joke. Thats why you dont mess with Mike Shanahan.

I wasn't defended the lazy slob, and I totally agree with everything you said.

I think of it this way - if you made millions of dollars and had nothing to do but stay in shape to keep making that kind of money for years, what would your conditioning be like?  How hard would you work at it?

Remember in elementary school when they'd put erasers at each end of the shuttle run to mark the ends?  I bet if Shanahan put double bacon cheeseburgers at either end Fat Albert would pass in under 60 sec!

Sorry...but someone had to make the big fat out of shape lineman cheeseburger joke...

He was the only one who had to take it.

He had to take it because he didn't show up for camp.

How is this Ironman related?

How is this relevant to ironman? Speed kills. You love data and metrics. Can any male ironman over 40 run it in under 50 both times?I doubt it. I hope you can beat me. Are you a bdp?

Sometimes I think football sets a bad precedence, but I love watching it.

We have some high school football players that train at our gym.  A few weeks ago, one was complaining that he needed to gain more weight; I looked at the scale after he stepped off and it was at 309.  He wasn't a healthy 309 either.

Yes I could, but I am a sprinter just beginning my journey toward distance racing. In high school basketball we had to do similar drills, but they involved reaching down and touching the floor at each foul line and center court. Anyone else remember suicides? If you didn't puke you weren't trying hard enough.
I agree this conditioning test doesn't pertain to Ironman fitness, but it does to football fitness. Football is all about quick twitch speed.
