Subject: Impressions on Total Immersion Swimming?
What is everyones general impression of the total immersion swimming system. I am a confident swimmer, but would obviously like to improve if possible. Do you guys think that the TI system prduces speed and efficency, helping out in tris?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

PS Anyone check out the DVD? Is that worth it or is the book enough?

Well from what I have seen it looks good *BUT* you could probably get more out of joining a masters class or hiring a swim coach before you looked at a DVD. I am about 200 meters from being able to swim 1 mile without stopping and qualifying to join the masters groups around here. I cannot wait. Joining in August.

Total immersion really helped my swiming a lot. I feel way better balanced and more efficient. I'm still not very fast though. I was watching a really good swimmer the other day at the Y who was totally doing TI right. She was only taking 10-11 strokes per 25 yards and her 50 yard time was 1:40. It was neat to see. I think TI is great for tris because it saves your legs.

I went from barely being able to swim 100 yards without gasping for breath, to swimming 2000 without dying, thanks to TI.  You've got to give the drills a good trial, and actually work on it, but it'll pay off very well in the long run.

To quantify my improvement: 1st race last year - 500 yards/12:30.  Today, 500/10:43 - that's almost a two minute improvement in the 6 months I've been using TI...

Awesome, congrats on the imrovement and good luck with the masters! For those who use the TI system, was it just the book or did anyone try the DVD?
Thanks

Started with the book, got the DVD - the drills made a LOT more sense...

DVD worth every penny- and it comes with an online "handbook" that has a lot of what is in the book...

DVD is more valuable than the book, IMO.

I'm a TI dropout. hehehe

I started this year barely able to make it one lap. I got worried, bought and read the TI book, and then went to a half day TI workshop where I suffered through drills.

I got discouraged by that experience and ended up just swimming laps on my own. I've improved enough to be able to swim a longer distance like 2000 yards. Although I'm comfortable, I am very slow and inefficient in terms of strokes per lap.

Maybe I need the DVD... or more likely I need to hire a coach to make real progress.
