Total Time = 2h 54m 27s
Overall Rank = 236/342
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 15/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 2 1/2 hours before the start. Had a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and water.
Event warmup:

Usual stretching routine and found a bathroom good and early.
Swim
  • 36m 19s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim for me. PR by nearly 7 minutes. Kept up my freestyle stroke the whole distance. Form got a little sloppy in the middle but overall it was good. No problem with exception of HRM coming off and goggles fogging up quite badly.
What would you do differently?:

Don't swim directly behind that cute girl who kicked me. Forgot to spit in my goggles before the start to keep them from fogging up.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Had tri top for the first time to get through a little faster. Good results. Also went without Camelbak.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to climb into shoes after mount line.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 38s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 21.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I murdered people on the bike course! Was only passed twice and that was by the race leaders. Kept my cadence high at 90+ for most of the way. Fantastic results: overall finish was 236th but was 88th on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Tie bike number down differently. Kept flying up and hitting me in the knee. That was just annoying.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Had to rerack the bike next to me to keep it from falling off and get it out of my space.
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing to get out of shoes before dismount.
Run
  • 1h 04m 25s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Avoided my usual pitfall of starting out too fast and was able to hold a pretty steady pace throughout. Filled my hat with ice at the u-turn to keep cool. Sleeveless tri top made things feel much cooler once the sun came out.
What would you do differently?:

Need to start doing speed and track workouts in the off-season. Other than get faster there's not much else to improve.
Post race
Warm down:

Filled my free mug with ice cold water and grabbed a bagel, banana and a handfull of cookies. Met davidb and his wife from BT. I was in desperate need of fluids and didn't really get to talk to them much, but there's always next time. Checked the race results and then packed my gear and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim: Having to deal with HRM falling off.
Bike: Distracted by bike number flapping against my knee.
Run: Still not a fast runner.

Event comments:

Two weeks ago at TriAmerica I PR'd by 12 minutes. Beat that time by 24 minutes today!!! Couldn't be happier to finally break 3 hours! Volunteers did a very good job just like at all of Jack's races. Fans were very vocal in their support as were all of the other racers. This race also had one of the better t-shirt designs. Great race overall and I'll certainly be back next year.

Unbelievable! What an improvement over your last race! I am the same way with needing to do speed work. Its great to cream people on the bike and sucks when you get passed on the run! Awesome job today.

Nice race! I really enjoyed that bike course also. You must have been one of the people who flew by me. Keep working and the improvements will continue!

Awesome bike. You were with the flag again right? That might be what keeps you from going faster on the run. Extra weight extra drag, just a thought, but if I were you I'd keep it anyway, that way you are easy to spot .

I didn't know you were the guy with the flag. That is awesome. When I was coming back across that seemingly never ending dam I saw the flag way in the distance and originally thought it was probably stationary and a spectator cheering on a loved one. Then I noticed it was coming towards me. I don't know why but as we were passing each other the sight of the flag seemed to give me a little more energy and I seemed to pick up my pace a little bit. So THANK YOU!

Bill/Aaron,

Will you please send some of those "going faster" vibes my way??

Great pics from the race, Aaron!
