Sunny
Total Time = 2h 40m 53s
Overall Rank = 37/115
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/21
Pre-race routine:

Crawl out of the tent at 6:30, stumble around the campsite looking for some food and drink.
Event warmup:

Short ride from the Green Lake campground to the race site.
Swim
  • 43m 54s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was slower than usual on the swim today by at least 10 minutes. The course sure seemed long and heard numerous comments on this from other racers. Not sure if the course was too long or not.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Bike
  • 1h 08m 54s
  • 40 kms
  • 34.83 km/hr
Comments:

Went out a little too fast on the first 20k and started cramping in my hamstrings at about 22k. Had to pull over and stretch for a minute or two and take it easy for a few minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Pace a little better.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Run
  • 45m 19s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 32s  min/km
Comments:

Ran pretty well and was able to pass a number of racers that killed me on the swim.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Was still getting over the cold and eye infection I picked up last week following the Grand Haven tri. Suprisingly it didn't effect me as much as I thought it would. Once I got out of the water I felt pretty good.

Event comments:

Great location for the race. Took the family and spent a long weekend camping. Had a great time although we did all manage to pickup swimmers itch from the lake. Evidently this is quite common at Duck and Green lakes. I really enjoyed this race although the hill on the run course was not a whole lot of fun.

The Crim is in Flint, not sure of the weekend. Where do you live in G.R.? I'm in Jenison and registered for my first sprint in Ludington at the end of August.

Can't do the Crim - doing the Ludington Lighthouse Sprint Tri the next day. Anyone else doing it? Or better yet, has anyone done it in the past. The cold Lake MI water temps have me a little freaked. No wetsuit - can't see paying for one yet until I know if I'm addicted or not. Do have a Speedo Trisuit that might help a little.

I can't make the Crim either. I am doing the Ludington race also, the long course. I did the Grand Haven tri a few weeks back and the water was around 60 degrees. It was pretty cold but there were a number of sprint and olympic distance athletes without wetsuits.

I live on the southeast side of GR near Breton and Burton intersection.
