Subject: Can't sleep?
What is going on? Ever since I started training (going on 8 weeks) my sleep has been terrible. I used to fall asleep at 9:30 as soon as my head hit the pillow, then wake up at 6am all bright and shiny.

NOW, I have a hard time falling asleep and wake up every freakin night between 3:30 and 4:30 am. I know I'm excited about training, but come on...I'm sleepy. And no, I haven't tried PNB.

Exercise = increased energy. So, you might not require as much sleep as before you were regularly working out.

When are your workouts?  I can not have a really intense (read: anything more than a leisurely stroll) after 7pm.  Keeps me up at night.  The endorphins released during exercise can keep you from begin able to fall asleep, much like caffeine. So, on nights I ride after work, I usually stay awake longer than normal.

I had my longest swim so far last night... 3000 yards. I was pooped when I got home and scarfed some dinner and watched some law and order with the wife..

bed time came and I was so tired I couldn't fall asleep.. Sometimes being over-tired will do that.. would that be the problem??

If you look at my posting history you will see that I was up in the (*&@ middle of the night last night. This is not unheard of. YOur body will adjust.

It can also be a sign that you're pushing it a little too hard and might need an extra day to rest.  Is this happening every night?  Or only some nights?  If it's only sometimes, maybe you could start tracking when it's occurring to see if there's a pattern.

NEVER excersise less than 2 hours before you go to bed. If it's a habit then next time you wake up at 4:30 in the morning go out for a little excersise. After you do this I'm 99% sure you won't have problems going to be on time and it will allow you to break your habit.

I'm having the same problem, dead tired but can't fall a sleep. I think stress levels have something to do with it. But on the up side The late late show is funny.

Okay, I only exercise in the morning and this is happening every night. I think you're all right...I'm over-tired and not taking a rest day. It makes me crazy to take a rest day. I can't nap (not since the night before my daughter was born-5 years ago) and I don't drink a lot of caff. drinks.

Okay, so after I teach my class tomorrow I will only do a short swim and I'll take the day off on Thurs.

My gosh, at times being type A can be burdensome. Okay, now I can check off my list that I checked this thread.

I take a pill called GABA Calm. GABA is a naturally occurring amino acid in our brain. It stimulates relaxation. I throw one underneath the tongue on nights I know I will have a problem sleeping and I'm out. I'm slightly groggy when I first wake up but after five minutes I'm good. I attribute the groggines, if that is a word, to getting more sleep than I have been getting.

Another thing is caffine. I know if I drink caffine after 5-6pm I can't sleep until atleast 11 or 12. V8 also causes me sleep problems for some reason.
