Overall Rank = 137/364
Age Group = Beginners
Age Group Rank = 23/50
Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 4:00 am, Drive an hour and a half while eating a couple of energy bars. Then do packet pick-up, body marking and set up my transitions.

Oh, and I only got about 5 hours sleep since we bought a house the night before!! OMG, can I be any busier?
Event warmup:

Swam about 2 minutes right before the start.
Swim
  • 11m 6s
  • 550 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started raining after I rounded the first bouy, which made navigation a bit difficult. A couple of times I had to strain out of the water to take a look around for the bouys. Also, this was my first time with a mass start, so bumping into people was a bit new.

One item that made the swim harder was the lack of visibility. The water was pretty murkey, whcih made drafting that much harder. I think I did pretty well in that aspect.
What would you do differently?:

More open water swim practice. Also, more start proactices to get used to the bumping.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

With the rain still coming down, getting into my bike gear sucked. My jersey got rolled up and I had to fight to get it loose.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, except practice my T1 a bit more. I think I should also work on my running mount.
Bike
  • 40m 11s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I really tried to ride a good rythmn, but with the ups and downs, I had to adapt quite a bit. There was another competitor who kept swapping places with me throughout the entire bike. We smiled about it and used each other to stay motivated.
What would you do differently?:

Work more on my aero position. I stayed upright or on the hoods most of the time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

The whole mount/dismount thing needs some work. I managed to get my gear on and off quickly. The added transition time was for running the rest of the transition since they had a through transition.
What would you do differently?:

Have a set of sunglasses or a hat waiting here. I didn't need them for the bike, but I did for the run.
Run
  • 27m 8s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

This was, by far, the hardest part of the Tri. This is also the part I had prepared for the least. Almost as soon as I left the transition, I got a side stitch that stayed with me the rest of the race. I even stopped a couple of times to take a walk. Luckily, the second time I stopped, a voice from behind me yelled, "No, don't stop! Keep going!" =D Very cool.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder. I think I would also do more bricks, since that was where I really felt I lost time.
Post race
Warm down:

Stand around, drink water and talk with new friends. =D

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much. The only thing that would have really added to my abilities today would have been more training time, especially in the run.

Thanks for the great feedback. I feel pretty humbled, though. A good friend of mine did 1:15, while another friend I met at the race did a 1:18. Of course, she's done longer distance Tri's before. Still, I know I can do better if my training and rest are more consistent. Imagine what I could have done on a full 8 hours sleep!! =D
