Total Time = 1h 02m 10s
Overall Rank = 74/102
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 28/38
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30. Had water, 1/2 bagel and banana with peanut butter. Had a Tim's coffe along the 2hr drive. Drank a Carnation Instant breakfast 1hr before event. Sipped Grape Gatorade (my fav)
There was thunder and lightning as we left. No rain....YET

Event warmup:

Got to the event 2hrs before the start so there were no lines and I thought I got a good transition spot.
Just biked around to check the gears on the bike and did some stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 3s
  • 350 meters
  • 02m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water was cold. We were told before had the water would be warmer as tbe temperature has been so hot latley.
Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Try the wetsuit? I have one but have never used it. I'm not sure it would have helped for the short course or not. It may have taken more time to remove the suit due to my inexperience than it would have helped my actual wim time.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Sand everywhere! Used my water bottle to rinse my feet and wiped dry on my damp towel. I did "get dressed". Put on shorts, top, socks and laced shoes. Helmet and sunglasses on. (for the rain)
What would you do differently?:

Just continue in my bathing suit without the clothes. They just got soaked anyway.
Different laces so I don't have to tie the shoes.
Bike
  • 34m 32s
  • 12 kms
  • 20.85 km/hr
Comments:

Started the bike UP hill then down again with a sharp turn at the bottom.
This was difficult as it had started to rain HARD just as we entered the swim. Finished on the bike on the same hill. Up then down with a sharp turn at the bottom. The rain was refreshing on the bike. I am very slow on the bike! (15yr old hybrid doesn't help) I hate being passed by little 14yr olds. There were lots of puddles as this was the first rain for the area in 6 weeks!
What would you do differently?:

TRAIN ON THE BIKE!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

When I got to the transition area the bike beside mine was on top of all my stuff! I re-racked her bike and found my hat full of sand and mud! Really it was rack bike, helmet off hat on and go.
What would you do differently?:

Not have the bike land on my stuff. ;o)
Run
  • 18m 36s
  • 3 kms
  • 06m 12s  min/km
Comments:

The rain was wonderful on the run.(my husband and kids didn't like it) The sand was difficult to run in though.
I really didn't feel that bad on the run. It took the first 1k to get my breathing back to "normal" and no calf cramps which was good.
I really thought I had done better on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know I guess I'll just keep running.
Post race
Warm down:

None really. Found the family then cheered on the rest of the finishers. Still pouring rain so we really didn't want to hang aroudn too much.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

cold water?
rain on the bike hills

Event comments:

It was hard in the rain. In the 5 years for the event this was the first day with rain. There were a few tents but not enough for everyone.
