Aqualong - Biathlon (swim/run)

View Member's Race Log
Bewl Water Reservoir,
England
Urban Race
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 10m 12s
Overall Rank = 52/89
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Did some gentle stretching and got into wetsuit. Had 2 Snickers bars from chocolate vending machine, partly from nerves and partly due to lack of dinner night before.
Event warmup:

Swam for 5-10 minutes in warm-up area of reservoir. Managed to step on glass as I exited the warm-up area so ended up on starting ramp a few minutes later with small pool of blood coming from cuts to big toe and sole of foot.
Swim
  • 40m 55s
  • 3000 meters
  • 01m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim started badly because of the cuts to my foot and anxious not to get hit by other people so swam slightly wide. Managed to get into my stride by the first buoy and improved from there though sighting not very good. Drafting picked up on second lap.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

(Time included in swim time.) Out of the water before Richard Stannard, but passed by him in transition.
Run
  • 1h 29m 17s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Really enjoyable run. Did first lap at reasonable pace and picked it up a bit towards the end. Focused on catching runner ahead.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and atended to still bleeding foot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nervousness in swim.

Event comments:

Finished 7th woman overall. The race organisers admitted afterwards that the swim was short, I suspect the run was a bit short too. But a very enjoyable race.

Wow, stunning times.

It must have been an elite race to come so far back with such good pace.
