Subject: Cross or mountain bike??
Living in Kansas, winters can either be really tolerable with very little to no snow, or brutal with a lot of snow. I need to really be on my bike a lot this winter since I plan on doing IMKS 70.3 in June and I really want to build/maintain a good base. I am just not sure which route would be a better option, Cross Bike or Mountain Bike.

Any suggestions or things to consider between the two?

The benefit of a cross bike is that you much closer mimic your road riding position. The draw back is of course that you can only stay on road or easier trails (wooded trails are ok as long as you don't have lots of larger rocks and roots to deal with).
