I am looking for a new tri bike. I am currently riding on the specialized allez with aerobars. My bike shop is trying to get me to order either the specialized transition comp(I think. it is the higher end model) or a Louis Garneau frameset an build that from scratch. Help I don't know what to do?

Hey there,

I also looked at the specialized transition and like it!!! But I decided to go with the equinox 7(trek)!!(I got a really good deal on it)

I think it is a good idea, but you need to test ride and see how you like it!

I would get the LBS to let you ride everything that is in your price range that fits.. and then ride one or two that you can't afford...

Don't know anything about building from scratch..

I think the most important thing to do is go to a bike store that you trust and be properly fitted. Is your LBS FIST certified? Are the sales people triathletes as well? If not, I would try to find a shop that meets these criteria.

I agree but here in Connecticut there are not a lot of tri shops. Actually I don't think there are any at all. I trust my bike shop immensely. I do not know about FIST because I do not know what it is. Could you explain that to me so I can ask them? Thanks

I dont know where in CT you are but you have one in your state called Fabish Sport. There are different methods to fitting a person to a bike. Serotta (sp?) is one, FIST and there are a few others. The FIST is a method that is triathlon specific. Here are 2 really good articles on fitting someone to a triathlon specific bike:
